I just recently acquired a Visontek ti 4200 128MB for $40 just curious how good this card is. It layed to waste the mx4400 I had in it :) but how would this be with some current games like farcry, HL2 and such.
 
Its a pretty good card, but anything shader intensive (ie. far cry, HL2, ...) will bring it to its knees. But for 40$ its a great deal.
 
As was said above any FPS of the Far Cry or HL type will at best 800x600.
Far cry eats my machine alive..... that game .... so so beautiful :p
 
Ok well I kinda figured it wouldn't run (well) the newer games but my god it kicks the crap out of my old card. Another question though overclockability. Is this card able to be overclocked and make it worth it doing so? Softmods or Hardmods?
 
I overclocked an albatron ti4200 beyond ti4600 speeds. As always, overclocking ability will depend greatly on your luck of the draw.
 
The ti 4200 is a great older card and can easily be oc'ed to 4600 speeds. In my opinion of the older generation cards it was the best buy for the money/performance ratio. However, if your looking to play new games with high resolution etc you will be disapointed. But hell for 40.00 bucks what you expect ... just remember dont run aa/af with that card and you will be able to still play most new games with playable framerates.
