768/64 Cable

Charter is just a bullshit company.

On their site, when i type in my zip code, it says 2mb is available for 39.99 / month. I currently pay 39.99 / month for this shitty 768 download. I call them up and say, "Hey i want the 2mb, since its the same amount of money !". The lady on the phone says, "Oh, everybody in YOUR area will automatically be upgraded at the end of the month because we only offer 2 speeds now. (384 and 2mb). I'm like, thats cool.

That was 4 months ago. My friends and I have called to bitch them out numerous times. Now when we ask, "Wheres is my 2mb", they say, Your area will no longer get the upgrade. But when I go to their site, they still advertise the 2mb/128k. Hmmmmmmmm

so uhh it sounds like you have some money coming back your way from them. id fucking demand it. and if they say no, you say 'where the hell is my service you greedy whores'. and threaten litigation. god i love america.

before you do that..
make the ethernet wire crossover.

umm... 75kbps up? i would call and complain that is total crap... imo...

even @ 128kbps up you should see at least 100 or so i would imagine... weird thing is your download is real good, and your up sucks...

check out the forums for your provider on dslreports, a lot of times they have great tweak guides

I don't trust those numbers though. I've routinely gotten around 3megs/sec (BYTES, not bits) off this college connection BOTH ways... that 253kbit/sec upstream is wayyyyy off.

I have the luxury of being in a neighborhood with a buncha old people, so I have like no one on my loop. If the server lets me, I be downloading at like 400KB/s :)

100Mbps fiber optic - upload and download speed are same, I usually get
about 13000k/13000k, 5 static IP`s at about $50 a month.
4.3 gigs in 2.5 minutes is sweet

Where are you to get uber connection for cheap? I know Telus has something like that in Cityplace Toronto.

Usen.com started this service in Tokyo about two years ago. There are a couple of electric power companies offering fiber optic service also now so the competition is driving the price down.

At school - Cyberonic DSL 1.5/768

In real use I get anywhere from 1.2 - 1.4/768

At home - Comcast Cable 4.0/384

I actually pull anywhere from 3 - 4 Mbps frequently, and upload at around 350 kbps

Still waiting a damn long time for Verizon FTTP

I wonder if they would drag some fiber to Canada and offer those speeds for $50 ;-) Probably not but I'm hopefully wishing ;-)

That's 3-year old marketing hype. Most cable networks have plenty of overhead these days, and bandwidth is capped at the cable modem itself. I think that in the old days that was true, but the only time you really hear that now is from someone trying to sell you DSL.

Acutally, doesn't matter if it is Cable or DSL, if someone gets pwnd by a virus and is generating lame amounts of useless data it can crap out a whole lot of connections (I work for the DSL company, happens until we cap the conversations to a min). I'm sure it happens to the cable companies too.
