Well after a few months I have my Rig almost where I want it. Just need to replace my memory and I'm good. Anyhow, given my temps how far should I push this thing.

After Orthos for 30 min I have 44C on the mobo and 47-48C on the cores (according to core temp)

My system specs are:

Coolermaster Conros 1000 with 6 120mm fans (still pretty quiet)
Thermaltake V1
Asus P5N-E SLi
E6600 at 3 GH
BFG 8800 GTS OC 320MB
OCZ 667 MHZ Value Pro running in sync at 667
Audogy 2 ZS
Seagate 400 GB Sata 3

Well, you cant burn it up it will just shutdown/crash. Voltage will kill it if you go nuts.

As a max (while still leaving some headroom)

70-75C on the coretemps
1.475V on Vcore.

It may not get anway near that but those are reasonable limits. Other people have pushed harder.

Absolute Vcore max per Intel Data sheet is 1.55V.
At or near 100C core temp the CPU will send out an "I am to hot, spin up the fans !!!!) PROCHOT# signal, some temp over that not publicly released by Intel, it will turn itself off.

You are not going to get far with that ram anyway.

Enable Thermal Monitor 2 to cover yourself.

My sig is mainly a joke but if you go right up to the edge, everything but the "reduced performance" (well if you blow it up I guess the performance is "reduced") is deadly serious.

Well, I have a related question and didn't want to start a new thread.

I'm OCing my E6750. Using just stock cooling with AS-5 instead of that stock gunk. At 3.2GZ (400Mhz X 8) I am idling around 33-35 on the cores and under load with OCCT I hit around 55c. That's at stock volts, just wondering if I should try to push it further or not.

With that stock voltage and excellent OC on the stock cooler, it is a moral imperative you see where it can go! Per above you cant hurt it unless you do something really really silly with Vcore. You apparenlty have a excellent OCer. The heatsink will probally limit you and you are going to have to add some Vcore pretty soon but that is damn remarkable (what you have now). Like I said, and if you want tune that down some, go till you get 65C under load with Vcore no higher than 1.4V (only increase Vcore as needed, work your way up, its not fast but it is sure.) Consider booting into a memtest86+ CD you download and burn to reduce the chance of messing up your windows install in case it freezes on you but at some point you will have to see if windows will load.

keep in mind at about 420-430 you will probally have to loosen memory timings but CPU MHz is way more powerfull than memory latency.

Even if you return it back to where you have it now it would be interesting to see where you can go (but I am crazy and love doing that kind of thing, if you are completley happy with your current performance it might not be worth the time and effort).

Change one thing at a time, keep notes, have fun .

Just ran OCCT for an hour at 3.3GHz, same result. Volts are set to auto in BIOS actually, and it was hovering around 1.39-1.4v. Temps reach mid 50s, 55-56 or so. The RAM is running 5-5-5-15@826Mhz with a 1:1 divider. Pleased so far, now on to 3.4!

Ahh bad news :(

My speedfan was out of date, didnt have the offsets for the C2D set. New beta version took care of that and my temps are 10C higher than it was reporting. Idle is low 40s and under full load at 3.3GHz they reach 67-68C on the cores. :(

Looks like I'll have to back off a little until I can get a decent fan. The potential of this chip is amazing though.

E6600 should have a TJunc of 85'C.

Speedfan 4.34 beta 34 corrects the misreading on the newer CPUs. My temps jumped 10C or so. Right now I'm stressing this chip at 3.4GHz drawing 1.39 Vcore and it's peaking at 70C on stock cooling. The IHS sensor hits 60C.

Thanks for all of the excellent info. I am going to pick up some new ram before I jack around any further. There is no use in doing this twice. The information is exactly what I needed though....if for nothing else, just for peace of mind.

Thanks
