I want to secure an in-store item at Microcenter, but I cannot pick it up for 8 days.

If I pay now, how much time do I have to pick it up? Do they even allow me to pay now?

I'm pretty sure they detail that during checkout. I believe 8 days would be return to shelf territory for most places though. It's been a while since I did a pickup with them, but I believe they made me pay at pickup and gave like 3 days to pickup.

You don't actually pay. It asks for a card and all that but it doesn't charge you until you pick up. They ring you out at the customer service desk / internet pickup line.

To follow up on this:
- the don't charge upfront
- they only hold until Sunday
- no way to reach anybody to announce my intentions

If you can't pick it up within the time window Microcenter will cancel your order and put it back on the shelf.
You have 3 days from when you get your reservation email.
Yep. Microcenter pickup orders are basically just requests to hold item(s) for you to pick up. I've done plenty of them. They won't hold it for 8 days. You get 3 unless it's one of the few items you can order for delivery.

MC holds for three days. If you are traveling into the area on a certain day, time the request and you'll be set. I've picked up orders from several MC's all over the country.

You pay at time of pickup.

Timing the request wouldn't work for the purpose of my order, which was to lock in availability and price for 8 days. Can't have a reset every few days in there.

I intended to, but I could not dig up a phone number for my center.

I think that might be by design. I've also attempted to find a phone number for Microcenter on their site, but basically all they have is their stupid chat service. Which is essentially useless if you need to know about some situation local to the Microcenter in question (ie "how packed are you guys right now") because they might not even be in the same state.

They still have a store phone, I had my local one in my contact list from over a decade ago and it still works.

Try finding a old post or archive.org listing for yours.

You're lucky- there is no way to contact anyone at the Cambridge store directly, no phone, no email, no chat, nada.

FWIW, I "lost" the item I was reserving. By the time I came back it was OOS.

Yeah I noticed that with my MC too. No phone number.

I've shopped at Micro Center for over 17 years now. Can confirm the online reservation system for pickup is:

- Card asked for but not charged
- They will hold item for a number for days (typically 3) for you to come buy it and pick it up before returning to shelf and canceling order
- You pickup at the Internet Pick-up Line and you can pay however you want. Doesn't have to even be the same card you used to reserve

If there's anything else you happen to find while at the store you want, you can buy them with your internet pickup.

So you didn't pick it up within 3 days like their policy states or you attempted to pick it up within 3 days but somehow they had sold the one you had reserved?

What I'm saying is that there was no way to ask them to extend the waiting period until I returned from my trip.
