Hey there, thanks for looking.

Question, I just sold my BFG 6800 GT OC for was able to buy a ATI X850XT for $400 before rebate.

last year I had an X800 Pro and I could of sworn there was a overclock feature in the drivers that you simply turned on.

Don't see it in the new 5.8 cats.

Any advice please ?

download ATI Tool.

Oh ... thanks, ok, yes I remember that tool. And thank you! I would rather use ATI's official method. Hrmm ... was it removed in the new cats or .. do I need to enable the official way of doing it via a coolbits type hack?

Kristina

pretty sure coolbits is for nVidia cards only, but don't quote me on that. Just download and install ATItool, then proceed onto overclocking the card. And don't worry, ATI Tool is safe.

I knew coolbits was specific to nvidia cards, only used that as an example.

I am surprised that whatever I was able to do via the old x800 pro and, at the time, the current drivers ... that it's now gone in the new cats.

I downloaded ati tool and during the testing phase and heatup, looking for errors my sceen went garbled around 535 ... I actually had to reset the computer to get back things to normal.

THAT WAS SCARY.

Any other advice ?

Only thing Ati ever had was a thing called overdrive in the drivers. Significant boosts were not doable. It's pretty weak. Ati tool is the way to go.

You can use Rivatuner which is also useful for its windows xp refresh rate fixer.

btw welcome to the forums.
