Have you read a guide yet?

Rhetorical question, just pointing you in a direction..

A hint for this specific CPU OC is: Start with FSB of ~450 and 7x multi - never seen a E6550 that couldn't do that - and progress with steps of 10 MHz [of FSB]. Should save you some time [that I've wasted...]

The guide linked above may be dated mid-'07 but 95% of what's in it still applies to you, so read it carefully and you'll know all you need to know... If you don't understand something, then ask here again with specific questions. Oh and if you'll notice the guide went thru a lot of updates too (up thru '08), so it's not something that was just thrown out there. Dunno why it's not sticky anymore, still tons of people looking for help w/OC'ing C2Qs.
