ive noticed alot of people on here have their computers hooked up to recievers, normal shelf systems, ect.

how would i hook my computer up to my sharp shelf system?

Plug the output from your computer to the input of the shelf system.

There's no magic behind this.

i dont htink i have the outputfor that type of thing.

i knew it was tricky, i just have no clue how, ive always had creative surround sound. but a speaker wne out.

what? of course you have output, how else do you get sound out of a soundcard?

No.

You'll probably need to get a cable adapter or something to get the right cabling for your shelf system. Other than that, no.

just FYI... this question is answered in the FAQ sticky.. :)

For simple stereo, you need a mini plug to two RCA cable. You plug the mini plug end into your sound card and you plug the two RCA plugs into the back of your receiver or shelf system into Auxilary, DVD, tape or whatever set of plugs you want and can plug it into.

If you want 5.1 surround sound, get three cables like the one described above. You then follow directions for your sound card for which output corresponds with which type of speakers. You connect the front speakers outlet to the front right and left inputs on your receiver. You then connect the rear speakers outlet to the rear right and left inputs on your receiver. Finally, you connect the center/sub outlets to the center and subwoofer inputs on your receiver. The last cable is tricky because red and white don't usually correspond with being center and subwoofer. Try it one way and if you get high pitches coming out of your sub and low pitches coming out of your center, then reverse it.

If you want 6.1 or 7.1 you'll just have to find the special cables somewhere online that feature three RCA plugs at one end and a mini plug and hook up similar to the 5.1 setup but with a few extra connections.

These above techniques are called analog. It uses analog sound signals to get to your receiver/shelf system. There is a digital method but since you have a Creative Labs sound card, you will only get stereo sound out of this method unless you watch a movie. I only recommend this if you have a really good receiver ($400 or more) and prefer it's Dolby Digital and DTS decoder over the DAC in the sound card.

Hope that helps you out a bit. Post any more questions you have, I'll be happy to help out.

When you said creative 5.1, i figured you were talking about something along the lines made by Creative Labs who make soundblaster, Audigy, and X-Fi stuff. Not to mention their old line called "Live! 5.1"
