Hello, quick question.
How do celeron 800mhz computers compare to say, a P3 800mhz computer for folding? My 800mhz P3 puts out about 42PPD. Is this about what I can expect from a comparable celeron?

Since F@H generally relies more on clockspeed than anything (inside the same processor lines), you can expect about the same production from that Celery. There aren't major architectural changes between the P3's and the P3 based Celerys except for the on die cache. The only other major difference is the bus speed and the multiplier used. Therefore, since the clockspeed is the same, it should produce about the same amount.

 
I have a 2.0 celly that has only completed 3 WU's in 10 day.....I also have one of the new 2.53 Celerons that chews thru WU's like a fat girl thru a box of donuts....
I dont know why, but maybe its because of the extra cache....

Actually its probably more because each WU is different. The 2.0 could have pulled down Tinker core protiens which fold rather slowly on P4s or the Celerys based on them. The 2.53 could have pulled down smaller Gromac core protiens which will run rather well. Cache size has almost nothing to do with the performance of F@H.

Why dont you OC the Celery? The Average overclocked speed for that chip is 986 Mhz .

I don't have one, I was just curious. Also, If I did get one, I'm not sure if the mobo would allow overclocking or whatnot. Some of those Intel boards are a pain.
 
There are a few tricks out there to do it.

WARNING :
DONT BLAME ME IF THIS NUKES YOUR SYSTEM

1)

Take the memory out of your mobo on your Rig. Start it up with NO memory onboard, it'll beep repeatidly, let it go ahead and do so. After it finishes beeping, turn it off, and install in the memory and turn it back on. The computer will load into the bios stating that it failed bootup due to system frequencies, and might give you the options of changing them!!!! I did it to an old P3.. So far I've gotten a 300 mhz increase.
