i forgot to buy thermal paste when i bought my setup and was wondering what household chemical\greese etc. has good thermal conductive qualities. Vaseline maybe?
Just something to hold me off till i get some Artic Silver when i buy another stick of ram which will be in about a month or 2.

Don't make fun of me too much;)

Go buy a cheap tube of generic stuff at a local store. That's all I can really say...

Didn't the retail package/HSF come with thermal stuff?

toothpaste is REALLY good... just that it dries up, too bad
it performs better than AS3 according to Dan

Get a piece of juicy fruit, bubalicious may work better, chew thouroughly, let dry, then thinly apply it over the heatsink. Now thats [H]ard

I think that may work lol...might need to try that sometime. (Dont blame me if the bubalicious rots your teeth and kills your kitten, and causes an earthquake in california though. use common sense, just buy a tube :D )

Go to Radio shack and get a small tube of thermal paste. It's pretty good stuff.

I doubt you have anything laying around the house that would work for more than 2 seconds.

Go to Radio Shack and get a tube of thermal grease. It isn't the best stuff in the world, but it's a hell of a lot better than frying your hardware. Either spend $3-$6 at Radio Shack now, or spend a hell of a lot more buying a new CPU and possibly motherboard. The Radio Shack stuff is a lot cheaper and takes a lot less time to get than a new mobo & CPU.

seriously, don't put it on without any thermal paste. i did that with a volcano 9 back when i was a newbie (like it's really that long ago) and the computer wouldn't boot into windows because the thermal protection was turning it off. (took me awhile to figure that out, too:eek: go figure)

use toothpaste (and if you have some copper lying around, get some copper dust and mix it in) or just go buy radio shack stuff. it isn't far behind as3.

The system i am using right now to type this has no paste on the volcano9, and it's runnig a 1700+ @ 11x175!

Ditto here, no paste wont do much except have it run a bit hotter.

Last time i had my HSF off i just though "bah...who gives a shit" There was a bit of residue on the bottem of the heatsink, dity residue but i just threw it back on. Dont care at this point, almost upgrade time. When i do i need to see how bubalicious works :D

I made a post like this in the past when I didn't have access to thermal paste.
Kyle suggested Cheese.
