*HOT* Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB $69.99 Shipped - ends 5/24

Got mine, finally. I'm tired of worrying about how to shuffle my smaller drives around.

And to those wondering, the Free Shipping is the UPS 3 day, not the Egg Saver 4-7 day. This mattered to me since I'm going out of town.

grabbed two of um.... just have to figure out where to put them now. sick deal

Umm, so what's a decent cheap raid card to go with these since I've already filled all but 1 of my mobos sata ports.

grab them ewiz.com with magic15 code, it ends up being 67.99, 2 bucks is 2 bucks

thinking about raiding it up with this.... but don't really have any reason to. decisions, decisions...

how fast are these in raid 0? im thinking about buying a pair to replace my 640 caviar blue... I have a lot of flac music on my main drive so i need the storage

Mine already arrived and is now in my system having stuff transferred and backed up to it :D. Thanks again OP.

I've got 2 of these and they're quick and quiet, albeit a tad on the hot side.

Really, they get hot? I would think 2 platters would be quite cool. Can anyone else comment on the temperature of these drives? (Live in LA, summer is approaching)

I've got one of the 500GB F3 and it runs around 33C with ambient temps around 72F.

That's inside a matx case that is padded tight so I consider that a great temp.

To relate I've got a 2 platter WD640 that runs at 38C.

Pretty hot, they were almost unbearable to touch for more than a few seconds when I had them in an open bench. I recall my 640GB Caviar Black running cooler.

I have 4 of the 1TB F3's sitting at the bottom of an Antec P180. They run slightly cooler than my older WD 640gb blue drives.

At one point I had 2 F3's and 2 WD Blues, and the F3 drives were slightly cooler.

I do, however, have a little bit of airflow running over them - so perhaps that's a variable.

I'd buy another F3 1TB drive, but I just don't have any room left. I've filled all my SATA ports... not willing to upgrade over this...yet

I want one of these drives pretty bad, tbh. I would ditch my 250GB AAKS raid setup for one of these. My 1TB F1 spinpoint is damn impressive.
You think :p

Great price on those drives, I bet my roommate picks up a couple for a raid setup

Maybe he will use the raid setup for main drive/apps/games and the blue for music storage?

2TB for apps and games and 640GB for storage?

I bought 3 of these for raid 5.

Mmm another 2 for raid 0 would be fun too ^_^ Great drives

Got one, about time to replace my 10 year old storage drive.

Why would you use raid 0 for storage?

Didn't see your comment on this.

I sold the caviar blue, and I'm replacing it with the 2TB. I keep the OS/apps/games/all flac music on the main hard drive. But I keep my movies and such on a NAS. I also backup my music to the NAS as well. But since I like to keep the music on my main, thats why I need the space.

Yes I know the risks of RAID-0 :D

Perfect timing for a great drive. I just grabbed one. It's my 3rd from Newegg. Thanks, OP!

i bit. porn collection is growing too large, needs its own hdd. at its current rate of growth, i might need to order two of these soon.

I picked one of these up and am using it as an OS hard drive, its very fast and I hope it lasts a long time.

Anyone ever deal with Samsung RMA procedures? I have dealt with WD, Seagate, Maxtor, and IBM in the past but have not heard to much regarding Samsung (might be a good thing).

Never had a problem. Fastest turnaround of all the HD makers.

I got an e-mail for Newegg for a 1TB WD Caviar Blue at the same price. Are they equivalent performance?

Lol, no. The Samsung HD's are better in every aspect from speed to reliability to noise and then theres the issue with new WD HD's being split into 2 groups: Ones that support raid ( RE drives ) and ones that don't ( pretty much any HD without RE in it's name ). Samsung doesn't do that because it's just gay to do so.

I was unaware of the wd issues running Raid 0. Seems some have no problems.
