Ok here is the thing, I want to go SFF with the latest technology- skt 939, PCI-E, etc. I am going to sell most of the parts of my gaming rig that I have now to get the money for the project. I was thinking about going with this Shuttle:

I have a 6800 GT AGP right now, and of course I am going to have to sell that and get a PCI-E card. Now here is the question.. what card should I get? I will be keeping my A64 3200+ Winchester and 1GB Corsair XMS PC4000 ram as well as my 3 hard drives and dvd burner.

I have been looking around lately, and I loved my 6800 GT, but would it be better off for me to grab an X800 XL, because they seem to be cheaper than the GTs'. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If you have another card, sell the 6800 now before the bottom drops out of them, then keep the money till the 7800s are well and truely out, and either grab one of those, or a 6800 ultra when they go on clearance.
 
I have a sn25p with a x800xl and it owns, im able to run everything at full settings @ 1280x1024 .....plus some of them overclock pretty good, and if you get a good after market cooler for another $30 or so, you can easily reach xt speeds.

Yeah.. I do have another card.. a GF2 MX.. lol. And I can't exactly run San Andreas, HL2, and BF2 on that... nice idea but won't work out.


I did have an X800 Pro before I bought my 6800 Gt, but that was before the price of ATI cards were much lower than that of Nvidia due to demand I believe. The X800 Pro wasn't bad but my 6800 GT ripped it a new one.

So you like your SN25P then? Any problems with it?

Not a chance. My vmodded XL only runs 510/630 for benching. I CAN'T game with that. With a VERY GOOD WC system I get a 490mhz core@1.58v/570mhz mem @2.2v for 24/7 use. I can crank the voltage up more, but it does no good. There's no way you will hit XT speeds on air. Mine did 455/560 on air before the vmods.


Retail XL's can be had for around $250 off Monarch and ZZF.

So are you saying I should just stick with a 6800 GT?

*EDIT ... holy crap.. now I see that there is an X850 Pro. I guess it has 12 pipelines, and is clocked higher than the X800 XL. I haven't really payed attention the whole video card thing in a few months, now I am just really really confused.

I now see that it is not worth it to get the X850 Pro because of the 12 pipelines. So its between X800 XL or 6800 GT... not sure here.
 
sweet, agp? what you want for it? has it been overclocked, or well cooled, what was ambient case temps in its home?
 
Just grab the X800XL same performance and you'll save yourself a few bucks you can use on something else.

What do you mean you cant game with this? You can easily do 1280x1024 with 4xAA/16xAF in every game out there.

Thanks for the link. Yeah I am starting to lean towards the X800 XL. On a side note, did the new forceware drivers screw anyone else's videos up? Whenever I tried to play a wmv file it would be all bright and crap. So I re-installed my old drivers, and it works fine now... weird.
 
The x800xl is the best bang for the buck. It can outperform the 6800GT and it has a full 16 pipelines.

You might be able to get a good deal off of the FS/FT forum for someone trying to ditch a 6800GT in light of the new 7800GTX.

I've built 14 computers with their cards, only had issues on one of those and it was the mobo and not the card.
 
Well I think I am going to grab that connect3d one from monarch for $249. It has the reference heatsink on it, so should I grab an Artic Silencer to throw on there? I haven't really read too much about how good the reference heatsinks are for the X800 XLs.

I wouldn't recomend the artic cooling if you want it for the sole purpose of getting a high overclock. It will give you better temps and get rid of some of the heat in your case. Based on how XL's overclock i dont think the reduced temps will give you enough of an overclock to warrant that 30$.
