I am looking at rounding up some parts and building a server and it has been a while since I did one from scratch.
Usually I just deal with pre-built servers these days.

1x Intel Xeon Processor E5506 80W
12GB ram
raid card x 2
6 sas 15k drives
5 2TB sata
intel quad GB nic.
dvd burner

I have a 650W 80+ but don't think it will handle it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

A good quality 650W PSU is more than enough for that setup.

Are you building from scavanged parts here? If you are buying new and don't have weird requirements then i'd think you can get far better bang for your buck with a processor family that is designed for single socket systems.

Your system would probably operate fine on a 430 watt power supply if you had to buy new, but seeing as how you're reusing parts, that 650 watt should be fine.

thanks everyone :} just waiting for a few more parts to build it and it was nice to save some $$$.

What motherboard are you using? If it's a dual socket board be aware that many of them have TWO EPS connectors. I'm not sure if you have to connect both when using only one socket but I wouldn't be surprised if you did.

I will look into it thanks!!!
