That's not Crysis!!

That's flight sim X, and that is the first differnce between DX 9 and DX 10 shot that I've seen.

I'm a hardcore flightsimmer, and holy $&!+.

Holy shaders Batman!
Yes we know it's not crysis, we are mainly just saying that just like crysis, this makes Dx10 look nice

Guys guys guys don´t fall in this trap again?

Remember when nVidia was going to show what difference shader model 3 did and ran Far Cry versus 1.1 mode...

You can do the picture below with dx 9 for sure... It has fully programmable shaders you know ;)

most realistic water I have seen... getting to Finding Nemo quality water rendered in realtime. :)

1 more year to go.... 1 more and I hope DX10 is mainstream by then because 9900GTX SLI HERE I COME!

Yesss.....

I cant wait until I'm playing games at Finding Nemo quality :D

Just because there are no DX10 cards out does not mean that developers cannot test DX10 features - they can run the rendering via software, and not hardware.
It will be like 1-2 FPS, but enough to take a screenshot for comparison reasons.

So saying "oh that must be DX9 cause no DX10 cards are out" may not be accurate at all.

Also worth to mention there has been fake FSX pictures out before ;). The video on E3 doesn´t have water like that but really nice water. Can of course be because there is no dx 10 video cards and no Vista yet ;)

as is most effects done on DX9 capable to be done on DX8, difference? years of develoment drawn down drastically, if DX10 makes water that look THAT good producable in games, i'll consider it a DX10 feature

the water looks good but i dont see anything to wow over.

on the other hand, cant wait for the new flight sim game. fuck crysis, im ugrading my pc for FSX!!!!

No there is tons you can´t do in DX 8 you can do in DX 9. There is a much larger difference between DX 8-DX 9 then DX 10. With DX 9 you already have fully programmable shaders.

DX 8 is very limited in comparison.

When you are spending 400 dollars for a DX10 card, go ahead and spend an extra 50 to get a 400 gig hard drive. That means 1 gig for the OS, 9 gig for games and 150 gig for left because the hard drive company can't do the math in multiples of 1024.

My point it, software size really isn't that big of a deal anymore. Storage is plentiful and cheap. Like women at a truckstop.

Exactly. In the times of 250GB Hard drives for $100, a 1 GB OS is nothing. Games pushing 4GB? Oh well... My FS9 folder itself is 40GB with all the addons (yea, you can say it's a hobby! ;))

Storage is cheap, use it. If you don't want to upgrade, fine. Stay behind. All OS'es bring new features as the hardware advances. Why upgrade your CPU, RAM, video card ever? That is WHY we have hardware advances: so the software will get better. We get better video cards to play better games. We get more HD for bigger games.

Come on... Open minds people... You gotta think...

Amanda ;)

I think he meant 1 gig memory footprint not storage/hdd :p

Still wondering why there are only photos and not printscreen. Though the bottom pic does look awesome, only the highest end cards will be able to render that, and not even at max resolution of newer LCDs.

Then spend 500 dollars and get a DX10 card and an extra gig of Ram from Newegg.

Virtual Skipper has pretty good DirectX 9 water:

Nvidia's clear sailing demo also had some nice water back in 2004. It looks really good in motion.

Not sure what this is from. Pirates of the Burning Sea I think.

No, that's from Age of Pirates (look at the url :p ).

It's Akellas upcoming pirate game (They made Sea Dogs and Pirates of the Caribbean).
