HL3 Conf......

it's only been 6 years since Episode 2 was released?...I swear it feels longer

Valve, you better not fucked this up. I'm having little spaz attacks from happiness over here...

Well, nothing will promote the Steambox quite like releasing Half Life 3 on it. If I was Gabe I would release them both at the same time. :p

This game has been so built up that I bet we are looking at Duke Nukem Forever V 2.0, aka its not going to live up to expectations.

true. its possible. but look at the developer/publisher nightmare behind DNF. this is valve. and only valve.

we shall see.

Valve has proven they can release fun games recently, though. IMO, all of their games in the last 5 years have been worth it to me. I haven't tried CS:GO.

This means they have to release it within 3 years or they will lose the trade mark.

Source Engine 2 was finished in 2012 and previous leaks suggested a 2015 release for HL3.

HL3 and L4D3 have been in the Valve bug watcher for Source 2 for a few months now.

There's no fucking way Valve would release a piece of shit like DNF.
This will be worth the wait, I'm sure.:D

I know what I will be dreaming tonight... Valve's own Steam Machine coming preinstalled with a exclusive copy of Half Life 3.

Also, I find it rather funny where like on the site that the OP linked to people make comments like," Half-Life 3 I couldn't care about even if I tried," or, "I would rather have Ricochet 2." It's like, Let's all jump on the I-don't-give-a-shit bandwagon about Half Life 3, but when it actually officially gets announced by Valve they turn around and are like OMG!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!! You all know you can't wait to play that shit, because you know it's going to be awesome.

While 3D Realms/Gearbox failed in terms of game design (and writing), Valve could most certainly fail with regard to technical execution. Valve's ability to execute technically — at least across the full spectrum of their products — isn't what I'd necessarily call "state of the art".

I think Source, at it's time, was extremely competitive with comparable offerings. Where it excelled was running very well on a variety of hardware, as well as having great netcode. The facial animations, etc, were also (IMO) the best at the time.

They've also wrung some great IQ out of a pretty antiquated engine at this point, albeit with some updates on the margins. But I think they've proven they can execute both from a technical and game design standpoint. Where I would worry is the story; do they have the same people as HL/HL2, or have a framework from them?

Nice! Personally, I just hope they value performance as much as they do features that read like bulleted lists from a PowerPoint. Valve usually does a good job with that I hope that continues.

... which is exactly why they don't talk about it. People will be more unhappy if they talk about a feature that may end up getting removed than by not talking about the game at all.

I would love it, LOVE it if they made it SteamOS/Linux exclusive for the first 6 months. Oh man the tears of the non-technically inclined would be legendary.

man i'm excited for this. i might have to replay HL2 + Episodes in anticipation.

Unfortunately, some people haven't played Half-Life 1/2 yet. It's a sad, miserable world we live in.

HL1 and HL2 were very well done at the time.
The games were nearly flawless in their design and gameplay.
The story line was complete and made sense.

Who hasn't heard of Gordon Freeman and the G-Man, that is a gamer?

Valve doesn't put out shit, period.

I'm sure there are better looking games out today, but few even today can match the story line of HL2 and its episodes.

I would still buy HL3 if it used the Source1 engine.:D

I don't think it will be released for a while, not until the steam Box anyways....though they might reveal some information about HL3 to steal some thunder away from next gen consoles? If it is a steam box exclusive or at least launched on steam box first then ported over to the other platforms later on.

I don't see this as any significant change from what we already know. Between various leaks and things that people at Valve have said, we all already know that HL3 exists in some fashion at Valve. Hell, they have owned Half-Life3.com/net/org since 1999. I'm surprised it took them this long to trademark "Half-Life 3". I don't think it puts us any closer to a release, it's just Valve protecting the name they own.

Never understood the hype about Half Life. Such a boring FPS IMO

They won't release it as a Steambox exclusive. Limiting the release to a single hardware or software platform goes against everything Gabe was complaining about Windows 8 for.

It will be available on all platforms on release.

Did you play the first Half-Life when it was released? For most people, it was the fact that the it completely changed the genre. Before Half-Life, I can't recall any shooter that had a proper story or the polish HL had. You'd maybe get a quick backstory and then from there it's just level after level running around killing shit. Half-Life gave you story. It gave dialogue and NPCs you (might) care about. Instead of being a collection of levels it was one seamless, giant map. It was different, and every moment of it was exhilarating.

Valve is a master of business, HL3 is all about Steambox and Steambox is all about HL3.

This will be the game to integrate that box, mark my words.

If it releases with HL3 included I'll take two please..........plus the controllers are kinda cute, too.:D

It had plot that never once required you to be out of character, it had puzzles that were more than "get key, go to door" (or at least they appeared to be more than that), used skeletal animation very well, etc etc etc. I think it was some significant changes, with a bunch of smaller incremental changes that makes it important. It didn't just set a new bar for the genre, it changed how everyone else made single player FPS games.

It's possible that, without Half Life, Daikatana might have been considered "good".

+1 but I would be surprised if they did that just to piss people off. They will want to sell the game, I imagine.

If they bundle it with SteamBox and have some special features exclusive to that console, that would makes more sense IMO.

Anyways, this is not much more than the monthly speculation finding... but yea I hope they are working on it and it gets relased at some point (I can wait) but most importantly I just hope it's good. Also, I kinda hope it wraps up the story in some way. Cliff-hangers and lame endings are really a bummer!

Right... masters of business would release one of their most anticipated games by alienating it's long time fans and Steam users, requiring a device and different OS to play it, and not releasing it on PC/XBOX (well established markets/buyers). Should go over well.

When you develop hardware and software, you have to have a reason for people to migrate to it, or you're wasting your time and money.

Valve would not lock out PC, as there is only one PC market, and the steambox does no compete in that area. It's a console that plays steam games - it competes with the xbox and PS, not the PC. They WOULD limit their releases on new, massive titles to their new platform and PC in an attempt to grow in the console market, or they are wasting their time developing and working on the steambox concept. You dont develop something and then fail to step up and support it unless you WANT it to fail. Releasing their own new games on all the competing hardware at/around launch is asking for the steambox concept to fail.

Since this whole thread is speculating. Allow me to add:

If they were to compete in Console with the SteamBox, it would be dumb for them to alienate PC users. Every PC gamer is not their target audience for the SteamBox. It would be frivolous to exclusively release on SteamBox without simultaneous release on PC.

I don't care if they actually make the game. I just want to know why Eli Vance's brain was sucked out of his head by a giant slug, and what it all MEANS? Whose side is G-Man really on. Why does G-Man dress so conservatively and who is his tailor? What the hell is going on! A god damn operating system and some fancy touch pads don't answer ma questions, dig?
