I just had my raid fail so I had to reload my OS and everything else but it gave me a chance to mess with the clocks a bit.

Sorry to say I am getting worse temps now with just about the same settings.

Here is a previous thread of my OC before my crash.
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1228914

After running small ftp in prime for the past hour or so my temps are stuck at 63C. The only difference I can see is that my memory is clocked slightly higher (DRAM is at 515.0 MHz) but I can't see that effecting my cpu temps much. Don't think it is any hotter in the room where my computer is located either.

Is 63C safe to run all the time or should I dial this mother back a bit and get her under 60C?

use coretemp, you did not say how you were getting the 63C temp but I will assume it is a coretemp like reading. Yes perfectly safe, very safe.

If you want to know how much "headroom" on temps you have use coretemp, under options check the "delta to Tjunction" box. What it now will read the the number of deg C until the processor (by way of its factory calibrated internal temp sensor system) thinks it is hot. This "hot" temp is not the max the chip can take but mearly when the cpu sends out a signal to say " I am hot, spin the fans up to 100% please". So actually you in theory could run a "delta to Tjuncion" of just a few deg C, 24 x 7, 365 days a year and not exceed Intels functional parameters for the cpu. I personally like to keep delta to Tjunction at about 10C or more when stress testing but I am very conservative. Then uncheck the box and it is what it is but you know you dont have to worry about it.

Thanks for the reply.

I was using coretemp to measure the temp a Tjunction of 100. I guess I am just weary at running at these temps when, from what I've read on these forums, the split between over 60C being safe is around 50/50. I think I will keep it at these temps for a while though just to see how it performs.

Kinda scared when I am gaming though. When that 8800 GTX gets a rumblin it heats up the case quite a bit could push the temps up on the proc.

LOL not to worry, if the temps go much above Tjuncion the cpu will catastropic thermal trip and just shut itself down. You cannot burn up a core 2 duo due to temps. You can burn one out with too high of Vcore by damaging the transistor junctions.

Oh and the split on these forums on who has read the Intel data sheet and the Thermal and Mechanical Guidelines for Core 2 Duo and who has not, is about 1/300

lol, probably very true, I know I haven't read them.

Thanks for the reply
