Hitman: Absolution (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

Well, duh, it's not a Hitman game anymore. The Hitman we knew is dead. He's pretty much out there on his own now; not working for anyone. Do you honestly expect the game to play the same way? No, it can't; that would make no sense. He's on the run because he's been betrayed by the people he used to trust. Seems like a pretty natural progression of the series to me.

Some people just cannot accept change... Do you honestly want the same, stale Hitman that's been done over and over? This looks new and refreshing. It looks great, IMO.

:EDIT: This is a good read.

What I read in that link was reassuring. :)

Someone in another forum:

So, basically... they took Hitman, added a layer of Arkham Asylum, and then added more Leon/The Professional to round out the experience?

My wallet is dry-humping the screen where my Steam icon is like a cat in heat.

So true so true.

The character animations are the same as Deus Ex and I cannot unsee it. That aside I liked the game-play footage, I just hope the game isn't as scripted as it looks.

This video sold me all the way. I loved EVERYTHING I saw and heard in this thing.

A few observations:

I hope the Batman style radar ability isn't something we the player can lean on too easily. It'll ruin the game. That was one of my few complaints with Arkham Asylum. You could pretty much just leave the radar on almost all the time and coast through.

Music was effective enough from what I heard. I still think it's an appreciable drop off from Jesper Kyd but it'll be serviceable.

I can't wait to see how this looks on my PC with everything maxed out.

Some of that gameplay definitely reminds of Deus Ex: HR a little bit and that's not a bad thing at all.

If this game really lives up to what I'm seeing in that video and that guy's description a whole lot of people, including myself, are going to be dry humping a whole lot of things. ;)

I definitely saw everything that guy saw in there.

This game can't come out fast enough based on what I've seen here so far.

Just watched the video again.. It's amazing how natural sounding the conversations that the cops are having while searching for 47 are. I actually felt sorry for that Fezano guy, even though we only got to see him for a few minutes.

The voice acting was great.

Another game I see arguably even more similarities to besides Deus Ex: HR would be Splinter Cell Conviction, a game that I thought was underrated, overlooked, and excellent.

I really like what I saw in this video. During that sequence I imagined several ways that area could be dealt with.

This was covered earlier in the thread, but it still makes me mad. No David Bateson, no Jesper Kyd.

Haven't seen this thread in a while. Looking forward to this game. Going to turn on the Purist mode (shuts off every UI element and assistance feature there is. You don't even get an ammo counter.) and have a hell of a time failing over and over.

I'm still hopeful despite myself and my concerns stated earlier in the thread which I still stand by.

No Bateson and especially no Kyd and how it came to be that they ended up not being involved is a huge warning to me going into this thing.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to read between the lines on Bateson's public statement and the same is true for Kyd.

It suggest to me a group of developers with suspect creative decision making and simply not giving a rats ass about the series as a whole. It makes me angry and it's not something I'm going to forget. It's the kind of crap I've seen in recent years in the gaming industry on an increasing basis that I think is a cancer outright. It's also a phenomenon not confined to just this particular industry, either.

Like I said before: It's like not having John Williams on a Star Wars film to not have Jesper Kyd on one of these especially since the last game is already 6 friggin' years old.

I'm expecting a competent title that is largely a Splinter Cell Conviction clone with a few different wrinkles to it that just happens to have the name Hitman in the title. I liked SCC so that's fine but I'm under no illusions going into this thing.

While that's a bummer about those guys not coming back for this sequel, I'm more concerned with the gameplay and seeing if they can successfully evolve the formula. I don't want the same game I've already played four times with new maps. I also find it promising that there are going to be modes for people who don't want the hand-holding.

And to be fair it's unlikely their lead designer or anyone else involved in the gameplay mechanics had any say in who gets chosen for music and voice, so I'm not going to draw any conclusions from something that in my experience is a process detached from core game development.

Agreed.

Fair enough. Whoever is responsible for it: It looks like hell.

Very depressing that EIDOS won't contact David Bateson. The man who is the voice AND model for Hitman. wow...

Best stealth shooter along with Splinter Cell if you ask me.
Latest video was great, got a nice laugh out of the stoners lol

Game seems to have great AI as usual, notice how Mr 47 doesnt disguise himself as a cop till theres a bunch of them around, logically they wouldnt be able to know hes not one of them, unlike the first patrol that showed up that seemed to all know each other.
