Hello,

I don't really know if this is just going to spawn a whole bunch of crap, but here goes:

GTS250 (about 130usd)
HD5750 (about 140usd, for the XFX model) <-- I have not been able to find a straight up answer for this
9800GT (about 90usd XFX again)

I got a sale on ebay that my bank/paypal (whomever hates me more) is still clearing through, so, baring the PSU I am looking at, I have 150usd left over.

My motherboard is a single slot, so...

Also, I'm not really looking too hard at the used cards, but somebody's got a 9800GT @60usd deal I am also eyeing.

You help is greatly appreciated!
-Jeremy

<-- I swear I must be doing something wrong in my config... I'll start another thread on that. It's been... 2 days? and only 5WU reported!?

Like I said when you asked me, the GTS250 is certainly the best card out of that bunch. However, nowadays it's pretty easy to find a used GTX260 for around $130, and that would certainly be the best option.

Opps - I'm sorry Zero82z, I forgot to check!

I'm sorry.

Thank you for your reply(ies)!

Yeah, I'll look into a GTX260. The power consumption has me a little on edge (out of a Seasonic ss400h1u, or another antec (iirc) 430W), but I'll manage (or get that Celeron 420 to solve those fears).

Yeah, try and find a used GTX 260.. listen to old man Zero. He knows the way of the fold.

My secondary rig is running a heavily-overclocked E2140 along with an overclocked 65nm GTX260 off of a 500W PSU. 400W or 430W should be enough for whatever system you put together. Keep in mind that you can't use it in the same rig as your 9600GSO.

Thanks!

Yeah... my motherboard just won't fit them :(. <-- PSU might not, either)

I guess that will be the next order of business, in the future. Either that expensive dual slot DFI lanparty (since I already have a mATX case, and don't want to run a nekkid system any more), or a new system alltogether.

Many thanks, again!

Dude, I'll sell ya my GTX280 shipped for $150. I have one FS and for the [H] it's yours for a great price.

What's wrong with Nekkid folding?

Thanks, but I'm kinda dead set on XFX right now, I just recently had a great warranty experience, and my motherboard's initial startup quirk made me think twice (thrice, 4 for more, maybe fifty...?) about the warranty.

I'll really consider it, though (PSU permitting :p).

Thank you!

Nothing is wrong!:p
ish...?
My Dad's an electical engineer, the kind that designs PCBs for telecommunications equipments. Those need: high power transmission, and no EMI at all.

He swung by recently, and had a good bit of stuff to say about running a computer naked. Needless to say, I got a decent mATX case for aobut 20usd (garage sale).

BFG's warranty policy and customer service is excellent. $150 for a GTX280 is hard to pass up if you've got the cash. If I had had that option when I bought my GTX260 a while ago, I certainly would have bit.

I'll wager there is more EMI inside the box than outside...... unless your running next to a microwave.

In the years of doing this, I've never had an issue. Often the boxen are more stable nekkid because of heat issues.

Also, cases are not always as cheap as what you where able to find.

Good luck fitting a GTX260/280 into almost any M-ATX case.

More of my boxen from folding past..... nekkid of course.

Thanks!:)

The mATX case has quite a bit of room Oo! (about 15"!? It's wierd, but true) (it looks like a ATX mid-tower, that's just shorter so it only fits 4 expansion slots).

I agree, the nekkid boxxen do run much cooler, almost all the time (until the NB heatsink of a stupily, passivly cooled nForce4 was blocked... but that's another story/my first gripe with nVidia chipsets).

It wasn't EMI, but ESD my Dad was talking about. I went a bit off topic there :)eek:). He does this for a living, so I just trust him (not to mention he is my Dad:D)

Right now, as my case is still a distance away (garage sale, but delayed shipping - never buy stuff on a business trip), it's running open inside a torn up ITX case!

The only concern I had, when I ran it ontop of the mobo retail box, was board bending, as my board bent a lot. I'd daresay 1cm, for a matx board. It's better now (flat), now that it has been properly bolted down into the imporvised motherboard tray.

Jeremy, you are foolish not to buy that GTX 260 for $150. If it was Nov. 3rd, pay day for me, I'd be all over it. :p

Heh... Sorry! Warranty + massive scares have caught me fast, at the moment.

Otherwise, it's like 14 more days for you? (+1 more for the bank to clear, but that's only if your bank hates you!)

I'm sticking to a warranty that already has tangibly delivered for me. (XFX, for me. A close friend recommends eVGA).

Nothing's wrong with Nekkid folding. In fact that is how nature intended it, but once you have little children poking their fingers into everything  those cases might seem like more of a good investment.

Good point.

I have to start thinking of this with the little one on the way.

Yeah, I went from nakkid systems direct to a case when I caught my son seconds away from sticking his 13 month old finger into the cpu fan...... and that fan doesnt spin slow, damn 3200RPM.... 120mm..... would take his finger off in a second
