Hi-End PC Sound System

How the hell did you go from asking about $2K for a setup to THIS?!

And I think your speakers are either Sequels, ReQuests, or SL3, but they definitely aren't my Summits. :)

Anyway, DAMN bro... that's top shelf sheeeeet you got there.... I'm proud of what you did with our advice.

It seems, though, a lot of us will be getting advice from you now.

:)

How did he get it though.... HAX.

:D Damn, everytime i turn on some music i still cant belive what i hear

Yep, the speakers are reQuest hybrid electrostatic. Are Summits noticeably better? These guys sounds pretty much perfect to me, but then again, my previous setup was logitec! :D :D :D

Summits are the current top, head honcho.... me and a bunch of Martin Logan audiophiles headed out to Kansas where we toured the ML factory and perused around town.... according to one of their VPs, the Summits are better than anything they had previously made excluding the Statements and possibly the CLS (atleast in terms of coherence). If you want to know my opinion, I think the Summits are the best ML to date (sans the Statements) because of its ability to adjust the bass and the xstat's dynamic range.

The reQuests are great speakers too though.... a definite bargain for what they sell used nowadays. I forget how much they were retail back in the day. But I know the Martin Logan Club president has reQuests.

;)

One more thing....

Val... how did you end up with Mark Levinson electronics and the Martin Logan speakers on the $2000 budget?? The amp alone was something I could barely afford on my budget.. that 383 is an expensive monster... not to mention the DAC and preamp. And I don't think the reQuests are anything less than $2K used...

What kind of budget did you work with here?

As i said, i got it for free :) a family member had it from ages ago and never used it. So i asked if i could have it

HOLY CrAP.

Do you even realize how lucky you are to start out with Levinsons and Logans????

lol you would be surprised what family will give. maybe his uncle is beyond rich and it was a system he had in a house he never used anymore. I have scored tons of gear that way.

Incredible really. If I were in your position though I'd probably sell most of it off and get something a little more modern and something more suitable for close range listening (I notice there are some obstructions in front of the speakers) Ideally the speakers distance apart from each other should be the same distance you're sitting from them. Smaller bookshelf speakers would probably sound better when sitting that close to them, especially at more moderate listening levels. I would figure it would take rather loud levels to properly drive such large speakers, then again I'm not really that familiar with planar speakers.

How i got it is sort of a long story. To cut it short it turned out that a family member had this stuff, but never used it. So i "confiscated" it :D

Damn, it sounds like nothing i've ever heard
All that gear and not a room treatment in sight. :(
