Hey, im kinda new with computers, but i do know the "basics". Um i just wanted to know and get some opinions about Video Cards, like what are better for gaming and whats the best prices for these cards. Im kinda young just dont want to get ripped by buying a radion 9200, for example. Like I herd about the new RVseries, like the 380 and 420 .... should i wait to buy one of those ... or what ... just want opinions. THNX:)

Next time post in the right section, but first, before we can select a vid card for you or offer suggestions. What is your price range? What do you use your card for? Games or industrial programs such as AUtocad and etc.? If games, what games?

Thought I would reply since I have a 9200. I only bought this card cause my budget was kinda tight and it was probably the most bang for the buck. I picked this card up for $67 at newegg and you can't really go wrong. However if you look at everyone's setup on the forum, your gonna find a lot of 9600xt's, 9700, and the occoassional 9800xt. Well worth the money but again depends on the budget.

Are you building a new system?

There is a WEALTH of knowledge on google, also go look inthe video card forum, theres some stickies that have info on comparing Vcards etc... Also read some posts int he video card forum, see what everyone is using.

It all depends on what you wanna spend. A 9600XT is a great median for price/performance.

I have an older Nvidia Ti4200 that plays ALL curent games no sweat. instead of jumping out and buying a 9800xt (which is pretty much top of the line with the Nvidia 5950 Ultra) I am gonna wait till I actualy need a card. Using up the full life of the card, then buying a card with a good price/performance ratio is the best way to go.

I suggest a 9600xt or for more cash an Nvidia 5900 non-pro for right now. If you can wait, there might be some more offerings in the future or mabey price cuts.

BTW if you have decent money, dont bother with the 9200/9100, Nvidia 5200/5600pro.

Im sorry for posting in the wrong thread.... it confused me cause it says genreal hardware... just thought .... o well... n e ways... um my buget would be like 150$....... but no one has touch the rv380 subject ...i her that series is gonna replace the 9600,9700, and the rv420 is gonna be like twice as fast as the 9800, i also her that the rv380 is gonna be more in my price range. Also yes i have built a new system, i have a Aspire(Turbo Case)X-Dreamer Black Mid-Tower Case with 350W Power Supply,Model:ATXB3KLW/350W, keeps everything nice and cool, good buy @ newegg, msi nvidia k7n2 delta mother board, with a athlon 2200 xp, with a 80 gig, also me and my brother are planning to set up a file server on our network, my questions for the vcard is because i have a radeon7200, LOL...everyone can laugh i know, and iv notice i cant play some maps in ut2k3, so i was just wandering. So i mean 150$ and i just want to know about the rv380s and if any one herd about them and if so ... am i right with the pricing and the speeds.

Well according to this article it says that they are due out later this year. If you can wait that long then go for it but if you need something now a 9600xt seems to be right in your alley.

im saving up for an RV420, if you want some knowledge, go to univerity or college, their knowledge is the best you can get and the knowledge doesnt come to you, you go to it, knowledge is power my friend

Wtf are u talking about? the 9200 is about the same price as the 9100 and the 9100 is MUCH better!!!

Well you do get a Radeon 9600XT for 159$ on newegg. The card can handle all the games at present... with all the eye candy turned on.

Butif you want to play with full AA and AF I would say go for a Radeon 9700 pro atleast.

....hmmmmmm ok now if i bought a radeo 9600 pro, if i oc that thing ... what preformance do u guy think i would get out of it, would be equal to a 9700? or would there not really be a diff.

Lets see if you want a passive heatsink and 64bit memory processing then go with the 9100.

This gigabyte 9200 i have is active cooling, 128bit processing, with a 128mb of ram and agp 8x.

The 9600 Pro (or XT) would be notably slower than the 9700 Pro... if you have the extra bit to spend it's worth it for the 9700.

Be lucky you aren't in Canada.. 9600xt (128) are still $240 range.. and the damn 9800xts are $650 (256)

i've been reading about knowledge, apparently imagination is greater than knowledge, if you draw on examples, you'll know that this is right, I have been able to draw on this, Albert Einstien once said that imagination is greater than knowledge and I agree :)

well, the price gap between the 9600pro and the 9700 pro is pretty significant when you're trying to keep it under $150 like the OP. However, I agree otherwise.

oh, and 3dfx: shut up about knowledge already:p

No, the 9200se is the one with the 64 bit memory processing, not the 9100. The 9100 is a slightly under-clocked 8500 which pwns the 9000/9200 series because they are meant for people who don't play games much.

Uh, dude, I think the smiley at the end means he was being playful...

Okay, I'm re-hijacking the thread and getting it back onto the original poster's question. In response - if you have the money (~$190), shell out for an 8-pixel-pipline card (9700, 9800, and 5900 cards) - they far and away outperform the 4-pixel-pipeline cards.

To Bad nVidia does not make a ture 8 pipline card.

To Bad nVidia does not make a true 8 pipline card.

Dont tell the nvidia boys that:eek: they still think there 5900's are true dx9 demons complete with full proper 8pipelines:pJ/k

the 9200 is a 9000 with agp 8x. the 9000 is a 8500 with only one texture unit per pipeline rather than 2. the 9100 Pro is an 8500, and the 9100 is an 8500LE.
