well once my w2's are done im gonna get back around 250$ so i plan on investing in a new mobo/cpu combo.

any suggestions on what i should get? i dont plan on oc'ing that much but i want to leave that option available to me in the future.i have a 73GB 10,000 rpm SATA drive at home doing nothing so i'd love to be able to use it in my new rig.

any help would be appreciated thx!


my specs right now are

ASUS 87v8x-x
amd athlon2600+ OC'd to 2.2
1gb ddr400
9800pro (planning on flashing to XT)
2 60gb 7200 IBM hdds

and since you only have 250, budget is sort of tight.

AMD64 3000+ Winchester if want cool
Newcastle if want OC

he won't be able to get those boards unless he wants to buy a new video card, if you wanna save an extra 200-400 and get a video card those would be the boards to get, if you wanna spend right away go ahead and get a NF3 Socket 754 board + CPU dunno what to reccomend since ive never used any, but my friend has a DFI Lanparty NF3 board and he has had no probs at all with it.
 
yea i got the 9800 so i could play hl2 and seeing as its not obsolete yet i plan on sticking w/ it so agp boards are what im looking for :D

btw thx for input so far :)

plus i have around 250 im not sure i could have up to 300 for all i know i worked a lot this summer. just around that price range is what im looking for after all, i am a college student.
 
thx for the help guys but turns out im going to wait on upgrading b.c if i go w/ 939 i might as well get pci-express seeing as its the future and if i go pci-e im going to have to get a brand new videocard too :/ maybe i can score something from a buddy of mine or something.
 
A friend of mine Just did that He bought a Real PSU and a Real MoBO a cheap 3000 winnie and a 6200 PCI-e. He has clocked the winnie to 2400 and the 6200 to 6600 speed. And he can upgrade if needed. It works to do it that way.
