Yeah considering my E6600 is hitting 2200ppd, and with some heavy use dropped down to 2100ppd, I'm thinking the C2D on my lappy could output another 1-1.5k. I will ask if not then that is cool, too. I'm thinking of getting a folding rig on the cheap soon. Start collecting various used parts and see if I can't get it made for under $300. I have a Zalman 9700 just sitting there waiting to do some cooling, which I pulled of my now water cooled E6600.

I also last night OC'd my P4 rig, its 3.6ghz and 621/722 1950Pro, getting around 700ppd, kinda sucks performance wise.

My E6600 is hitting 2100-2200ppd

My PS3 is hitting 1-1,100 ppd

So I'm really close to the 4k ppd, which is sad considering the $300 project quad rig could pull that on a single setup. :( and at less wattage.

Had a good day though went from 2314 to 5424, and that was with me taking down both machines for a bit of tweaking and such. I lost one project that was 70% complete it didn't wanna start it back up :(... Ah well in the long run it won't matter.

I'm wondering if I can hit 2,400 on my E6600 with pushing the OC up to 3.9 from 3.375.

 
Any suggestions on how to get more out of my p4 system?

3.6ghz, 1950agp (moving to 3850agp in a day or two)

Its only running the gpu client. Should I also start a single thread client? I'd love to ger 1200ish out of this box. That would make it worth while imho
 
If it is single core 1200 might be a stretch. I run a X2 that only gets ~600 PPD. That's enough to keep a few people away from me so it's worth it.
Try a single core client on it. I bet it will do just fine, but I've never run the GPU client.

 
Running just the GPU client is probably the best option for you. Since the GPU pretty much requires a dedicated CPU core, you wouldn't get much more by running a CPU client, and you might actually get *fewer* ppd that way.
 
Well I can always run Fahmon against each running by themselves, GPU and CPU and then run them joint and see what combo gets me the highest PPD right? Can't hurt to try!

If so then turn the HT on and makeuse of it.
If it is then you can run a standard console client one core and the GPU client on the other.
Because one core is only needed to poll the client and not crunch numbers, it the only real case where HT works correctly with Folding.
Both clients will run at almost full speed.

Ps. The client is not out yet for the 3850, so if possible keep the 1950 in there.

Yes it has HT and it is enabled, thus I'm only seeing about 50-60% CPU usage atm. I certainly can keep the 1950 in there until the 3850 is supported. Sweet that means it might hit 1k or more and that would make me :)

PS3 1,000 PPD
P4 w/1950 1-1,200 PPD
E6600 2,400PPD

Total 4,500 ish :) That would make me pretty happy, I am working on acquiring a Quad Core rig to do the 4-4.4k PPD addition. < I'm not sure where I'm going to stick another box! :p

I have six boxen in my living room at the moment. Considering my living room is rather small and includes actual furniture, I don't have much to spare. If I get any more, I will have to migrate some of the boxen to the bedroom. As it is, I probably need to put one or two of them in there now.

 
I have one more question geez I sound like Columbo...

on my E6600 it keeps saying it is trying to send work unit 01 and that it can't contact the server, but I've seen that I've gotten credit for the WU, so I'm wondering what is up. Anyone ever have an issue with a WU seemingly getting hung up in delivery queue? Also what setting should it be on when it says use Internet Explorer Settings [Yes/No] I said Yes, is that correct or might this be my issue?

Reconfig it and set IE to NO.
If set to yes, it will send in the work unit but not record it has been sent.
Hence it will try to resend the unit every 3 hours.
Which is what your seeing.

My P4 is a Northwood but I can't seem to get HT enabled. I looked everywhere in the BIOS and there doesn't appear to be a setting that I can see. The thing is, it's a brand new motherboard made by Foxconn and supports all the recent P4 processors including Northwood and Prescott. HT should be supported, but I can't seem to get it working for the life of me.

Its a 550 antec, which with a 1950 agp, and a p4, I doubt I am pulling half that... IE I've never had power issues..
 
Its more a case of paying for the power.
Running the GPU client can add an extra 80-100 watts power draw.

When I ran the GPU client on my +3800 & X1950xtx rig it was pulling in ~950 PpD for 240 watts power used.
Now I run the SMP client on my E6600's, I get ~1700 PpD for only 120 watts power used.
Its about over 50% more PpD for half the power used.

Well for now its more a matter of using what I have until I can get a quad box together. I just purchased the memory for 2gig 8500 DDR2 Ballistix for 65 shipped. I'm watching the forsales and ebay for a good quad for about $150 used. Then work on a mobo, etc. If I can get a mobo with integrated video, plus a reasonably cheap psu, I'm hoping to get the entire system for $300. That I could live with as my first quad folding box.

Ouch, that is small. Even my 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment is bigger than that. However, my kid likes to take up a lot of room on his own and he's only 7. It might even out a bit but I still have the size advantage it seems.

If a PS3 is running correctly it does 900 PpD.
If it not running correctly then it does 0 PpD.
Its whats they are benchmark at.
To get higher you need to overclock it .......... :D

Also at the moment there is no way of externally monitoring a PS3 to check its working correctly.

I remember older motherboards having this setting, however mine doesn't seem to have one. None that I can easily recognize. Maybe I need a BIOS update, IDK, but as it is ATM I can't find it anywhere. The board is a recent model, relatively speaking.

In what seems like the dim past, there were motherboards that did not have support for HT, but that was back in the era when Intel first released HT P4 processors and therefore understandable that older boards did not have support. Now, that would be an inexcusable omission.
 
How do you track production on your PS3. I've got a bunch of boxen, so figuring out the production of my PS3 is not easy to sort out.


Well my PS3 is doing 385 point WU in about 8.5 hrs = 1087ppd

That is my calculation, and I have just been monitoring when they start and giving them 10minutes to run and see the estimation it comes up with for completion. That is how I got the 8.5, it may not be perfect, but it does seem like I'm continously seeing 3 385 WU per day, obvioulsy depends on when they complete and stuff, so /shrug.

Total: 779ppd

So a 98ppd increase, not great, but figuring regardless it was going to pull X watts, I might as well eek out the ppd.

I thought you were producing around 700PPD from the GPU client alone? Did it slow down when you installed the regular client?

Yes, it slowed it down, as it says above 681 by itself, it drops to 597 with the cpu client running. So while I lose some on the gpu I pick it up on the CPU and some.

You could try configing the GPU to the "low" setting, not "idle".
It may give you a few more PpD without affecting how the computer runs.

Will try that tonight. I kept the GPU client the active window and kept the cursor on it today so windows would give it max attention, but definitely will try that.

From the looks of it, it's only 79PPD extra though. Maybe I'm fretting for not getting HT enabled in my system over a very small loss in PPD. I wasn't expecting the GPU client to drop that much. You still have the advantage even with the GPU client running alone. I still can't get over 600PPD with my system without risking an early unit end.

I am contemplating shutting the system down later this year when the weather warms up, or swapping out the parts in the box with a different board+CPU. Alternatively, maybe I should just wait for Stanford to release a new client with support for the 3000-series cards and get an AGP HD3850. My current card is a disappointment and a good thing the price was reasonable at the time.

I have an HD 3850 arriving today... wish I could put that one to use, but what I might do once I get this quad machine together is use it and my C2D as they are the most energy efficient and fold for 6.6k PPD using those two machines and take down the PS3 and P4 and use those as boosters if:

A. Someone is gaining on me.
B. If I'm getting close to passing someone.
