Help with setting on BF3 with 6870

I just finished a build with a I5 2500k w/ a single 6870 card and 8gb of RAM. I mainly play BF3 and I was curious the highest setting I can run the game at. I currently have it at the default setting and I wanted to run it a little higher if possible. Thanks

If it ain't broke, tweak it till it is, then back up a notch!
 
everything on medium, turn off AA and use 16xAF.

that should give you very good frames and with decent image quality with that card.
 
You should be ok on high with everything if you keep aa off. If you don't mind the way fxaa blurs things, you can turn on the post processing fxaa without much performance impact. I think 68xx cards are optimal at 8x anistrophic filtering, so I would leave that there. I would also turn off motion blur in multiplayer, supposedly it responds better with it off and multiplayer performance is a lot rougher than single player anyways.
 
Download MSI Afterburner and OC that card a bit first. After that you should be around 5870 territory at least. Once that is the case, my 5870 was running BF3 on all High settings with Post AA on High just fine @ 1080p.

Check around on some review sites for your card to see what a normal overclock is for your GPU, and then shoot for that as a target. It should be fairly easy to get there. Every card I've ever had (I've had over 30) has been able to overclock at least somewhat. Some cards will suck at OCing, while others will make your jaw drop at the amount of performance you can gain with a simple tweak.

I have the same setup but both the processor and graphics card are over clocked, I got the processor at 4.6 and the 6870 at 1000/1200. At those settings playing on the preset high for multiplayer, I was getting great frames. I upgraded to a second 6870 and now I can play on ultra at 1080p
 
Everything on ULTRA, post processing ON, Blur ON, MSAA off, AF 16x = 80+ FPS @ 1680x1050

not sure where "single 580 is not good enogh to play highest settings" is even remotely relevant as BF3 is ATI biased as it is.

I can run MSAA 2x and still pull 50 average in multiplayer.

Card is running @ 1130 core / 1150 memory 960T 5cores at 4.2ghz

My single 570 was good enough to play it at Ultra but with 2x FSAA instead of 4x. Still pretty good visual detail, IMO.

That is at 1920x1080 btw.
 
I run BF3 on Ultra as well with my 6970 at 1920x1080 and get 65-90fps. Dunno how a 580 couldn't pull it as well....
