Help with second nvidia card for Physx/CUDA

I've currently got a Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 MicroATX board and a Galaxy GTX 480.

The microATX board has an extra PCI-E Slot, so I thought I'd put in a GT 240 card for Physx (and my CUDA development). But, when I put the GT 240 card in, windows doesn't ever see it. The fan on it is twirling, so it's got power. Can I not do this because this motherboard doesn't support SLI? I know I'm not SLIing, but is that the problem, or am I being stupid somewhere else. I ran the CUDA device query and it only sees one device.

In device manager I have a PCI Simple Communications device that doesn't have a driver. I have no earthly idea what that could be for. But, it is in there whether or not I have the GT 240 in the system. I don't see any entry for the GT 240 anywhere.

Is what I'm wanting to do not possible or any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
 
SLI support has nothing to do with it; I run a GTX 470 with a GTS250 for Physx on an Asus Rampage Formula board which only supports CFX, not SLI and they work fine.
 
You only have 1 PCIe x16 slot on that motherboard, which i'm assuming your main card is using, so the second is going in another slot? The cards do fit in PCIex1.0 slots but it wont work properly if it doesn't have at least a x4 I think. It does get the power connectors off the smaller socket, (which is why the fan spins) but doesnt have the connectors to be used as a graphics card i'm pretty sure. The PCIe x16 slots are the standard for graphics cards nowadays, so look for a motherboard with 2 or more PCIe x16 slots you should be good to go. If you get it to work usuing that slot tell me I want more cards in mine and have used up the pcie x16 slots.
