Televisions are somewhat outside my expertise, so hopefully you kind souls can steer me in the right direction. My parents are looking to replace their aging 27" CRT TV with something a bit more modern. I think they're mostly looking at Insignia's offerings at Best Buy, but I want to make sure what they choose will fit their needs before giving them the thumbs up.
Mostly it'll just be for TV and movies, both of which will hopefully include more HD content after purchase, but they also have a Wii that sees occasional use. They have photos and video from a recent trip to Alaska (and will have more from future vacations, I'm sure) they'd really like to be able to display on the new TV, but both support USB and HDMI so I don't imagine that's much of a concern. Hooking up a PC or something like a Patriot Box is a distant possibility, if either of those would affect the decision.
Do any of these things necessitate a 120Hz refresh, or would they be fine with a 60Hz model? Would 120Hz be advised regardless? Insignia seems to be fairly well respected from what I've read, but I'm open to compelling suggestions. Fairly low budget--the 60Hz model they're looking at is around $400 and the 120Hz $500--given that my parents are both soon to be retired.
