I currently have a 939 3800 x2 processor, i want to try and squeeze the last bit of juice out of. I recently upgraded my video card to a hd4850, and even gaming at 16x12 i notice i am cpu bound in games like unreal 3.

For the MB i have an asus KN8-SLI nforce 4 board.

I am running stable at 250 x10, at 1.52v, often when i try to go much higher on the base bus speed, the system will not post. I am currently running a x4 HT multiplyer, and a /333 ram divider, my ram is currently a base 208, ddr, as shown in cpu-z. (pc3200 corsair ram with Heatsinks)

My core temps are roughly 30-35 on idle, and max around 49 on load, using core temp.

Do i have much overhead left on the chip, or am i nearing the point of diminishing returns?

I've heard of some 3800+ chips hitting 2.7-2.9GHz easy and some that won't go past 2.3-2.4GHz, so there's really no way to know how much room you have left. I would try lowering the HT multiplier down to 3 though, since your HT bus might not like being pushed over 1000MHz.

yah, i have dropped it down to 3 HT and i've also increased the ram divider so the ram stays under 400, which the ram is rated.

I wonder if the chipset might be heating up too much, i do have rather good air flow in the case

Trying to boost voltage, i got it to post a 2.7, 300 x 9 however would crash in windows.

got it to go at roughly 2.6 so far stable

what is the safe temp range for the 3800 x2 readings in coretemp?

I probably wouldn't go over 65C or so, although I don't know what the exact safe range is.

ok good, i found the reason for it not posting, my ram needed a bit more voltage to keep stable, with 4 1gb dims.

Looks stable at 2.65g at 1.65v. Board does not allow any voltages higher then 1.65 other then a suicide voltage of 1.8, so can't bump it up anymore that way

temp maxes at about 60c at 100% load on each.

2.7 crashes windows when it gets to desktop and starts loading various processess.
