The CPU may hold you back a little in some games, but otherwise, I suspect it will be reasonably well matched. With a GTX970, I was just starting to see some instances where the GPU would run at about 90% load while using a 2500K at stock speed (3GHz, I think). With a 1070 or 1080, it totally won't surprise me to find that the GPU is running at like 60% load while rendering 150FPS, and the CPU is the limiting factor.

You don't need that much GPU horsepower for 1200P, generally speaking, though. I expect you could wait a few weeks and spend half as much on an RX480, or get a sweet deal on a used 980Ti or something, and do just as well.

thanks a lot. The thing is i always find that after ramping up all the settings and adding mods i do run into performance issues. Thats why i want to get a 1080 or 1070 minimum. Theres never enough hp. especially with the new games coming along. Does a good overclock on the cpu help to alleviate the gpu load issue?

Yes, overclocking will help. If you're running at 4.6 GHz, then you're already running ~30 percent faster than stock anyway, so the limit before the GPU starts running out of stuff to do will be higher.

I can't say how much higher without more information. The GTX 10 series will totally work for you, though. If that's what you want, go for it.
