1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
gaming, programming, general use, moves/tv (lots of it).

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
Honestly, anything between 1400-2000. Not letting money restrict me this time around

3) Where do you live?
Ohio

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
CPU, CPU Fan, RAM, Case, PSU, mobo, storage drives (want ~3TB in storage), SSD, Video Card (have a GTX260, but odds are I'll upgrade), dvd r/w drive.
pretty much everything besides a monitor and speakers
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Possibly reusing:
EVGA GTX260

6) Will you be overclocking?
Yes

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
Samsung SyncMaster 2333 23" and Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22"

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within the next few months, I'd say June/July at the latest.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
Raid, USB3.0 would be nice, Crossfire and SLI are not necessarily needed - doubt i'll be using two vid cards
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
Yes, Win7 64-bit.

I'm pretty much set on getting the Intel x-25 80GB SSD, talked myself down from the 160GB as, well, its just too much and I can always wait for a bigger SSD later.

Would like 3-4 of the same (1TB+) hd's to use for storage. Still deciding whether I want to throw it in raid on my new comp or use an older build and turn it into a server.

CPU: Intel, looking at the i7 920 or 930
Haven't a clue about any CPU fans nowadays, so recommendations for these would be awesome.
As for the case, I've been looking at CoolerMaster Full sized towers.

Thanks in advance

When's the EARLIEST that you plan on buying parts? Are you going to start now?

What do you mean by "moves (sic)/tv"? Are you going to watch them? Download/Record them? Rip them from DVDs or BR discs? What?

Which games are you going to play? At what resolution? With how much eye candy? Are you going to use both monitors while gaming?

Define "general use" for us... what else are you going to use this computer for?

Out of curiosity, which version of Windows 7 do you have?

not going to start buying fo at least a month, it'd be bought in bulk at the same time.
By movies/tv, just downloading, watching and a little bit of ripping. I have a tuner and i've wanted to get into recording shit but never had thr storage, so I wouldn't be limited to that. I imagine I'd eventually rip from DVD as well, but that's not a priority.

As for games, games like L4D, bad company 2, cod mw2, CSS, TF2, and whenever blizzard decides to releases diablo3 I'll be over that. For the meantime, I'd just use one monitor, at 1920x1080, but eventually (much later so it's not a big deal) I'll probably upgrade my monitors to all the same and try and run games over 2-3 monitors- like I said this isn't a big thing for me, but pretty much this is the reason why I'll eventually upgrade my gtx260.

By general use I just mean web browsing, word processing and all that silly shit. Besides gaming and programming, I do a lot of torrenting, and depending on if I run the 3+ storage drives, I'll be using it to store my files (may justget a nas server, haven't decided yet)

Currently using windows 7 professional 64 bit

CPU: Right now, I really don't think that you need an X58 system, but if you want to put a very large OC on, you might want to go with an X58 system.
CPU Fan: I've heard great things about the Corsair H50, but you might want to try out the Cool IT ECO A.L.C.
RAM: Please, Do not go with Corsair dominators, they are so much of rip off. When you do choose memory, make sure you go with Ram that is at 1.5v, so you will be able to overclock them.
Case: the case is just a personal prefrence. I have the antec 1200, which is a great case. you might also want to try out come cooler master cases.
PSU: Now, I actually think you should go with corsair. They make very high quality PSUs. I would suggest the HX750w, or the HX850w, depending on your video card.
Mobo: Again, I don't know what kind of CPU you should go with. The motherboard will depend on what CPU you get.
HDD: For lots of storage, I would go with 3x 1TB WD drives. You can put them in RAID 0, but do that at your on risk.
SSD: Personally, I would go with the Intel X25-M 80G, for its fast performance, and great reviews.
GPU: If you want to game on 2-3 monitors in the future, I would highly suggest that you go with an ATI 5800 card. The 5870 would probablly be fine.
CD/DVD: All CD/DVD drives are the same, but just get one with good reviews on newegg.

I'm currently running a c2d e6600, pretty sick of it. I'm pretty dead set on getting an i7, just having trouble picking pieces to go with it.

And as for the psu, I'm leaning that way. I have a corsair hx650 or something in my
current rig and it's treated me well. My main help needed would probably be towards the the mobo and memory. If a nice vid card doesn't fit in my budget now I can always hold off and wait while I save.

I recommend this CPU + mobo combo:
$470 - Intel Core i7-930 CPU + Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R X58 ATX Motherboard Combo

RAM wise, I recommend this RAM:
$165 - G.Skill F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM

How much do you plan on overclocking?
Posted via [H] Mobile Device

i'd like to hit as close to 4ghz as I can without making my temps go too high.

as for vm's, down the line I can see myself using them

If you want to go for a large overclock, I would suggest:
CPU: i7 930 - $295
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R - $210
(you could go with Danny Bui's combo)
I also like Danny's Choice of RAM

Here is a quick build that I put together:

Ignore the Antec 1200. I put that there before I read the full first post. You can find Cooler Master's cases here.
I know that this is $36.84 over budget, but I don't think that will make a difference.

You should think about adding another 6GB of RAM , if you want to get into using VM's. I would have added that to the list, but that would bring this build way over budget.
