I just purchased x2 3800+ last week and installed it last night. At stock speeds I get 43 degrees C, while using two instances of prime 95 (torture test). Is this too high?

Also I would like to get some advice/help for overclocking it should I move this to the overclocking section.

I have :

AMD 3800+ x2
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Bios 1015 (bought it about a year ago)
1 GB ram OCZ Plat Rev 2
2 raptors in sata 1 and 2 in nvraid
1 500 Gig in nv sata slot 3
6800 ultra xfx stock speed
latest drivers for everything
Seasonic s12 600 W power supply
antec LanBoy
xp120 heatsink w/
vantec 120 mm thermo controlled fan.

I also tried to overclock my 3500+ saturday witht his set up but couldnt get past 214 fsb.

I cant seem to shutdown or restart my pc either since I updated my bios for x2. It seems to shutdown and then hang after the windows shutdown window disappears.

I did read that. I was using that guide to overclock. As for my temps arent they alittle too high for stock speeds?

X2s are generally really hot, your temps seem fine. However when OC'ing make sure you have sufficient cooling as upping the vcore substantially increases the temperature output.

Thanks guys. I am going to reread that guide and slowly try to overclock my cpu later tonight.

Unless you have a better HS than stock, I wouldn't reccomend OCing, I said the X2 is hot, I didn't say it likes it hot =)

I would not go as far as to say DONT overclock, but I would say be REALLY careful with adding voltage on a stock heatsink.

My 3500+ (boxed) runs at 52c. Stock speeds.

Not sure what breed it is. Wait, let me check CPUID. BRB... Ok, I'm back.

NewCastle.
