[HELP] What would it take ???? X700...

Well my fellow hardcore O/C'rs..


i just got in my used dell XPS600, details:

Dual core Intel 820D (3.2GHZ 2 x 2mb l2(
WD Raptor 74G
ATI Radeon x700 PRO



- Loooking over 3dmark 2006..... - the top score for an x700 series card is about 1500....

So it turns out, an Artic ooling unit fits this x700 (friend had a 9800 PRO, bought the AC uniut, card died.)


So , i installed the AC unit, installed ATItools 2.4? beta, right now i am at 504mhz on the core.

I am looking into some ram sinks, so the ram can go higher,

Why i write this thread is to ask.


What do you think I need to do to make it to #1 spot on 3dMark 2006 - with an X700 series GPU ?


If i overclocked this GPU like made....... is the CPU holding me back? (dual core 820D [3.2ghz 2mb each)


Or would something else hold me back?


Basically, the overclocking bug has bit me again, i bought this EXCELLENT condiftion XPS600 from someone on [H] for an AWSOME price.
No, i dont plan to buy a new mobo, etc. - if you cry how dell sucks, you have never obviously owned one.



So, bottom line, What do i need, or what can i DO, to this GPU to get me closed to being #1 on 3Dmark 200* anything.............................














P.S - i do plan on getting an X1900XT anyways for this system, but i figure this x700 PRO. could be some fun

You'd probably have to water cool the GPU I'd imagine.

Volt mod it. then you'll have some more potential with it.

seems like the card kicked it in for me, nopt sure if it was because of the viewsoni vm2025xm monitor DVI power saving issues or not, but oh well

I dunno. 3D Mark likes the CPU, and the one in there ain't great. If you're going for a record you don't want to use a Dell. I suppose if you ran it at some obscure high resolution with AA and AF, it might work. If Dell didnt have such crappy MoBo's you could over clock the CPU and that would help. Still, I don't think you hit any kind of record using a Dell. You need a good MoBo to do that. And water cooling, because you will be volt modding.

And yes Dell sucks. I own some. Hate the proprietary low grade crap that they use. Aww our craptacular proprietary PSU broke? How's 450$ for a new one sound?

Excellent for the price...not so excellent for setting "world records" in graphics related activities that are in any way CPU bound.
