HELP... Vertical lines scrolling

Ok so I re-installed XP and re-installed the 5.6 drivers and now theres vertical lines scrolling downwards on my monitor... changing the refresh rate just makes the lines closer together or move faster but they're still there... I tried wiggling the cable but that didn't help.. BTW my vid card is Dual DVI and right now im on a CRT monitor so im using a DVI to VGA adapter... I don't have any other monitors to test if it's a monitor issue or any other VGA cables to test if it's a cable issue... I'm ordering a 2005fpw once they go on a good sale again... but I'd rather be able to figure out if something needs to be RMA'd soon... Also I used driver cleaner and got rid of the drivers and re-installed but that didn't help either...

Any thoughts?
 
The other DVI input seemed to help some... but I can still see it some... could it be the adapter?
 
Sounds like your monitor isn't getting enough power. Try plugging in another outlet/breaker set or unplug everything but your PC and monitor and see if the problem persists. I had the same problem and had to move my TV to another plug to fix it.
 
Make sure any AC power cords are away from the video cables. Or at least cross each other at 90deg angles. AC power cords can produce all kinds of issues when running next to lower power data cables.

Other ideas, make sure both the computer and monitor are on the same power strip. Lines are commonly caused by grounding issues. Having the PS and monitor on different outlets can cause a difference in ground potental.
 
I've got my monitor in one of the outlets and a surge protector with all 6 of it's outlets filled up on the other... one of those being the computer...
 
Well I plugged just the computer and just the monitor into the wall outlets and made sure the wires weren't crossing and it seemed to do the trick... I tried re-arranging things on the power strip and turning everything else on... but the problem is back... I'm moving in a few weeks to an apartment so I'll be careful about wires there... right now it's a mess behind my computer...
 
Ok now I have no idea what's wrong...

I've tried just about as many different setups trying to problem solve and nothing seems to be a problem or be a fix consistantly...

I tested it out with just the computer and monitor connected to the wall and made sure no wires crossed... this worked the first time... then after a reboot the problem was back... if I disconected stuff and replugged it in sometimes it would work on reboot and sometimes the lines would be there...

I tested it out with an LCD monitor that has a VGA input and using the adapter it worked fine... no lines...

I also used the VGA cable from the LCD monitor and tried it out with the CRT to make sure it wasn't the cable... but the lines were there...

I tested out the monitor with my dads laptop VGA->VGA... no adapter... and the monitor works fine...

I tested the monitor with my old system (ti4600) through the DVI->Adapter->VGA and it worked fine... no lines... I also tested it with the through the VGA output on the card and it also worked fine...

I also tried re-installing the drivers again and even when there were no drivers installed (cleaned out completely) there were lines... after re-installing the drivers the lines were still there also....


I'm at a complete loss... nothing seems to pinpoint the problem...

I noticed that when I opened AVG it made the lines more noticable so I uninstalled that but they were still there...

The last time it worked fine consistantly was before I re-installed XP (I was using a "free" version but that was giving me other problems...) so I purchased it... formatted... re-installed... and I don't remember if the lines were there right away... but they came pretty soon after if not...

The thing that baffles me is I have ruled out every wire/adapter/peice of hardware as a problem because each has worked in some setup...

I really don't know what to do... I'm thinking of just ordering the 2005fpw now and if it works fine with that not worrying about it...

I was getting some problems with FarCry and BF2 demo also which I couldn't attribute to anything and could be a video problems... so maybe I should just RMA...

Thoughts?
 
do you have a sun lamp? A lot of times they can cause interference like you are describing. an LCD monitor or moving the lamp to a different room would solve the problem.
 
no sun lamp... I tried moving it to a different room too...

The card is on it's way back to Newegg right now so hopefully when I get it's replacement that will fix the problem
 
Seems the one thing you never tried was putting the monitor and computer together on the power strip, could have been the issue. Hopefully you're problem will be solved by getting a replacement.
