ok, so im postiing here for some help on my new build..

specs: fx-55
Dfi-ultra-d
1gig OCZ memory
x800xl
WD sata 10K raptor 74gig
Win XP Pro (OEM)

now....

i can look in my BIOS settings, and it recognizes the hard drive, but when i go to install the Win XP, it says that it cant recognize the HDD, and when i hit enter to install, it blue screens...

How do I create SATA RAID on LP NF4 series boards?

Answer:

SATA RAID building is a bit complicated on this series board, because NF4 chipset provides multi functions, e.g. SATA and IDE hard disks can be combined together to build RAID, such as Mirroring (RAID 1), Striping (RAID 0) and Stripe Mirroring (RAID 0+1) simultaneously. Please refer to the setup procedures below.

1. Enable SATA RAID in BIOS.

2. BIOS >> Integrated Peripherals >> RAID Configuration.

3. Enable the hard disks expected to be created RAID in here, save, exit, and then reboot.

4. Hit "F10" to enter RAID BIOS when the RAID detecting screen appears; follow the hint bar in the bottom of screen to create RAID. Finish setting, hit "Crtl + X" to exit RAID BIOS.

5. Hit F6 immediately when Windows Blue Setup Screen appears and put the RAID utility diskette into floppy.

6. The following step is extremely crucial, there are two essential files must be installed. Please hit "S" for installing one RAID driver, and then hit "S" again to install another one. Please be sure both of them have been installed completely, or Windows Setup will be failure with RAID.

7. After installing operating system, just check the partition in hard ware management if it is correct or not.

Please treat hard disk cables as extreme caution while creating RAID, if one of them is breakage, the operating system will be messed up. And it will not boot again, all the data in the hard disk will completely disappear. No save ways available to recover back.

now, i have tried these steps, but once i get to the 4th set, and try to hit F10, it doesnt go to the raid set-up BIOS...

now, my question is:

do i need to buy a controller card?
do i need to buy a non OEM version of XP pro?
or, do i need a new HDD\mobo?
 
Are you saying you have two HDs?
I don't have the same mobo as you but I read for my mobo (Asus A7V600-X), that you got a message saying you should install RAID drivers when you really don't need to. I can't remember exactly what the explanation was or whatever but just to tell you it may not be as serious as you think.
 
no, im saving to my HDD, and it says in the pic in parenthaseis (REQUIRED)

so, im going to try it again, because i think i did something wrong, but keep helping me, im not sure what is wrong..
 
ok, so its still not working, and im getting xtremely pised off by it... should i use a wired keyboard for the operation of whatever... or will my wireless do just fine?

and... umm...

yea.. can i get some drivers for my NF4 motherboard, and some instruction on how to get it to work when im installing win XP pro...

Your drive isn't being recognized properly in the system BIOS for one thing. Its reporting as a WDC WD800BB which is a regular WD 80GB drive.

Do you have two 74GB raptors? If you only have one then why are you trying to enable RAID. You have to have at least two raptors if you want to run a RAID setup. RAID should be disabled if you only have a single drive and aren't going to set up a RAID config.

You do not need a controller card or a non OEM version of XP Pro.

Are you sure you have a DFI Ultra-D motherboard? The Ultra-D motherboard only has 4 SATA ports and they are all native on the NF4 chipset so you do need to be installing drivers for the SiI 3114 controller. You dont have that controller on the Ultra-D.
 
im pretty sure that it said that on the manual that the SIL3114 is only on the DR models... :(

but, i have tried time, and time again, so how do i get my motherboard to recognize my hard drive as a raptor??...

and i only have 1 raptor.. :(

and, yes the ultra-D mobo does have 4 SATA connectors... err, my Ultra-D does that is...

so, any ideas on what i should do?
 
sounds like you got ripped off. Where did you get the HD from because that is no raptor. Have you tried updating your BIOS by any chance?

If the HDD is DOA it will report as a WD800BB. I had a 36GB raptor that started crapping out and thats what it reported as.

But anyways, disable RAID in the BIOS sparky and you dont need to hit F6 and install any drivers for SATA. The NF4 SATA drivers are native and you dont need anything on them unless your running RAID which your not.
 
for some reason, when it gets to the setup is starting windows thing, it just stops the setup.... it stays at that screen... what else should i do?....
 
A) The drive is borked. I had a Raptor do the exact same thing on a Via board - show up in the BIOS as a PATA drive.
B) As others have said, disable RAID in the BIOS and use the genric ATA drivers in Windows XP for the installation (if you haven't done so already, I highly recommend slipstreaming SP2 on to the disk, there are many good guides on the net for how to do this)
C) I would RMA direct to WD, and use their advance replacement service. That will get you a new drive in 2-3 days, then you send the bad one back in the box the new one came in, rather than having to wait around a week from Newegg.
 
ok, but i already sent in the RMA request from Newegg....
so im gonna go ahead and cancel that, and request a RMA from WD, and ty all for your help, i really appreciate it :)
 
hey, i have a question, i just received a RMA number from newegg, should i just let it sit there, and let it expire, or is there a way to cancel it?

ahh, nvrmind, ill just go through newegg, i have patience.... i had to wait from the begining of may, to the middle of june to get this whole dang computer..
 
wot, my dad is going to pick me up a brand new 74 gig raptor on his way back from work, and then ill have a Raid 0 set of raptors once i get the other raptor back from newegg :) and btw, newegg is going to send it back 1 day shipping, because i ordered it on 1day shipping
