Well i don't know which forum to post this on so if this is wrong i trust an admin will move it. Well first of all my roomate and i put together my new rig last night (specs in sig) and of course we can't even get it to post! So first question is what should i go about doing trying to get it to post. We both have built successful systems in the past w/o having this problem.

Second problem: When i was replugging in my usb mouse to my old computer, the power cord got bumped out and now it wont even get pased the boot screen..... this is just freaking weird. Any help getting my old computer back working....

So i went from 1 computer working to 2 not working... gg me.

do any fans spin up on either system?

On the system where u bumped the power chord, did you see or hear a spark or pop?

Have you tried taking out a stick of ram in the new system?

New machine:
Break it down to a "bare bones" configuration, mobo, cpu, video and ram. Set it up outside the case with the mobo on a piece of cardboard or wood, this will help eliminate the possibility of a short. Once you get it to post, start adding components, and go from there.

With your old machine, start by clearing the cmos, and see if that helps.

Let us know what happens, good luck.

yeah this just really sucks. 2 blows in 1 day is not fun

and yes all the fans spin, the mobo lights up, the video card fan spin, the hard drive goes on, etc. Just no beeps, and no picture. I have tried disconnecting the hard drive, the fans, the video card, the sound card, still nothing.

I took out 1 stick of ram and tried booting with just 1 stick of ram and same results.

Now thinking about it, my roomate plugged the audio connectors into the sound card instead of the mobo. Should i put em in the mobo ?

Another thing to note is the DVD drive. When i plug in the power cable WITHOUT the IDE cable it works fine. As soon as i reconnect with the IDE cable, it appears the drive has no power, it wont open, etc. Just some more info i thougth id throw in.

Did you assemble the PC outside of a case yet? Sometimes cases can short out the mobo. Oh are you sure that the monitor you're using is actually working? Test out that monitor on another PC if possible just to rule it out.

yeah the monitor works 100%
and when i get home from work its coming out of the case

but should i take the audio cables out of the sound card and put them on the mobo
and do you think the dvd/cd drive issue is a problem with the mobo?

What OS are you going to use? Creative has been having some driver issues with Vista, sooo.... And I don't think the audio cables have anything to do with your problems, but you'll find out while going through the bare bones setup procedure we've recommended anyhow.

I just read your sig. Many of the early eVGA 680i boards were pretty much bad and malfunctioned often. You may have one of those bad 680i boards. So RMA that board and hopefully eVGA will send you a working mobo.

It can't hur to plug in the audio cables on the mobo. Just try.

yeah when i get home from work everythign is coming out of the case and dis-assembled. There is no OS on there yet, i cant get a boot lol

Use a Linux LiveCD like Knoppix. Go on wikipedia and look up LiveCD and Knoppix to understand what I'm talking about.

well the cmos thing worked for my old pc so im online again thank god. Starting to take everything out of the case now.

Well i have tried all your suggestions and thank you guys alot.
We still have ZERO beeps from the new motherboard. I tried it sitting on cardboard with just a stick of ram and the processor. Would you guys think its safe to say RMA?

Are you sure you have a system speaker plugged into the 4-pin spkr header? Are you sure all the power connectors are plugged in? If you get no beeps without the ram, it could be the board or CPU. Make sure the HSF is in good contact with the CPU.

Still nada with all your suggestions, thanks guys. I think im going to just RMA the board and hope for the best, if it still doesn't work, well ill go from there.
