Help! PC doesn't start anymore

Hello,

Over the last month or so, my PC acted up when I tried to start it. At first, it sometimes started instantly with no problem and sometimes it took between 2 and 5 seconds between pushing the button and the PC actually starting. This problem occurred more often and the delay between pushing the button and the PC starting got a bit longer to up to 10 seconds. But again, some of the times the PC started instantly.

This morning the PC started fine but just now when I tried to start it, nothing happened. I tried several times but no luck. I removed the dust from inside and checked all connections (including the one between mainboard and power-on-button) and unplugged and replugged the crucial cable connections. I also switched to a different power outlet in my apartment. It still didn't start after a couple of tries. I also tried the reset button to start it.

The mainboard definitely had power because the green LED on it was lit and the USB ports had power. The mobo (or power supply) make a faint, continuous beep sound when the power is connected. This beep sound changed to a slightly lower tone after pushing the power-on button. So something was definitely happening when pushing it. After some minutes of trying, I held down the power-on button for like 20 seconds for two times in a row and it finally started. I don't really think it has to do with me holding down the button for so long. It also made a couple of plug-in/plug-out sounds (like connecting a USB-stick) for the first minutes.

Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? I am scared to shut it down now. The PC is 3 years old, specs see signature.

Revert to stock settings in BIOS (i.e revert the overclock), pull the video card and just have one stick of RAM installed. Does it perform as expect or are you still experiencing issues?

swap psu with another one. ATX standard will prevent system startup if PWR GOOD is not sensed at the mainboard (denoted as PWR_OK on this diagram)

Did all of those things, no change.

I don't have access to another PSU so I can't try this.

When you say "removed dust", was it a light dusting you might see after 6months or so of not cleaning, or completely caked on thick dust? If it's thick dust, it's likely caused damage to the PSU.

Either way, your very next step here is to use a new PSU as suggested to rule it out.

Hm, didn't clean in maybe 12-18 months. I will try to get ahold of another PSU to see if it's that. Thanks.
