Okay I'm looking to build an extremely basic computer for a family member, she won't be doing anything crazy. My knowledge comes from computer components for gaming pcs but not so much for a basic computer. I want it to be fast but I don't want her to have power under the hood that she will NEVER use.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing?
Web browsing, video chatting, maybe some youtube watching, extremely basic photo editing, if any. Basically this is going to be a pretty basic computer
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
I'd like to keep it under 600. Of course the cheaper the better, I don't want her spending unnecessary money.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
Wallington, NJ. If you're wondering, yes I have a microcenter by me.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, Ram, Case (preferably a small one), power supply, cd drive, motherboard, hard drive, 21"-22" monitor, mouse, keyboard, video card (unless I get the i3 which I believe has the onboard GPU, should be sufficient for this use correct?)
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
none
6) Will you be overclocking?
no
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
n/a
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
within a week or two
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
onboard GPU if you suggest this over a dedicated card
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
No, I will need to purchase windows. I will go with windows 7.
For the most part I think I can figure out the build but I'm definitely look for input on the CPU, Motherboard, Ram and the GPU (unless you recommend an i3 and using it's onboard GPU)
