I have the following low profile GTS 250 Video Card. it is a great low profile card, for HTPC, folding, and the occasional game at 1080p.

The problem is that the fan at anything higher than 45% will be whiney as hell.

I was wondering if I could just remove the tiny fan as seen below, and put a 120mm fan pointing directly at the heatsink, ghetto style?

Note, I am not planning on removing the large heatsink, just the tinny fan.

PS: While folding with the GPU at 99% the temp reaches 90C with the fan at 100%

Personnaly i would remove the fan and the black cover then depending on the size strap a couple 80mm fans to it or as you said a single 120mm fan but either way the black cover must come off for acceptable cooling

with my zalman vf1000 the first thing i did before the first install was rip off the original fan and strap 2 silent 80mm fans to it giving great temps and no noise

Is this in your HP Slimline (I remember seeing your name in the thread)? I don't remember if they would fit, but dual noiseblocker 80mm along the bottom would be awesome for both cooling, and silence, though some modding might be needed.
