I currently have:

Q6600 2.40ghz
4gb's memory
x2 Raptors in Raid 0
ATI 5700 1gb

Of these, for a gaming rig, what would be the best thing to upgrade?

The graphics card is probably good enough for now, so in my mind its either a new CPU / MOBO / Ram or SSD's?

Yoyo. What, size and resolution monitor do you have? Can you overclock that Q6600? Is this a prebuilt computer? What would be your budget on this upgrade?

I could overclock the q6600, its stock currently

I have (2) 24inch HP LCD's

Its a custom PC

Budget is a bit of an issue, thats why I was looking to pick one area or the other to upgrade 1st.

Figure I could spend 200-300

A GPU upgrade would only be worth while if yu can OC the Q6600 to at least 3Ghz. otherwise, there's too much of a limitation.

Once you OC the Q6600 to 3Ghz or so, pick up the GTX 460 1GB or HD 6850, whichever one is cheaper.

Overclock the CPU to at least 3Ghz as already mentioned, get the SSD and that way you are in a position when you do upgrade the rest of your stuff, you'll have a very fast storage component already. As you already figured that 5700 is pretty good still and with the overclock should keep you pretty happy.

the q6600 is getting close to 3 - 4 years old from 1st release

are we sure that its not time to replace it??

It can still hold its own in games if OC'd to 3Ghz, man. It may not get the higher FPS but still adequate enough.

If you don't want to overclock and REALLY want to spend money, then yeah go for a new CPU + mobo + RAM setup.

Wait until AMD's Bulldozer and Intel's Sandy Bridge processors arrive before you decide on upgrading the processor and motherboard.

For gaming, upgrading the video card generally gives you the most noticeable performance increase. Though many people have been recommending SSDs lately, SSDs don't really improve the frame rates while gaming.

The ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 has 3k + 5 Egg reviews

whats the real difference between the 2? Price is the same as well...

Well the Coolermaster HSF is better designed, uses a larger fan which means that'll cool better, uses a better and sturdier mounting system, etc, etc.

So the ACF7P is a poor poor value. The main reason why it's popular is because everyone is still thinking of the original revision where that was the only really good price to performance HSF back in the day. Nowadays, that's clearly not the case.

go with the hyper 212 you wont be sorry. Worth every penny. The Freezer is not that great of a cooler at all.
