Help - new computer build is not working

Ok so i have a new pc build and have a problem

my computer will turn on, for about 2 seconds then turn off for 1 second.

pretty repeats this forever until i unplug it.

anybody can help me?
 
i was following newegg's guide to build a pc. trying to hear the small beep. i cant hear anything. honestly i have not plugged a monitor yet. but none of the lights will turn on or the case fans . but the power button will turn on
 
Yes, if you did not install the stand-offs you could have even fried the motherboard and everything plugged into it also.. good luck..
 
well actually everything is working. i installed the MB with the standoffs but also, everything is working. but its turning on and off... the same way.
 
nothing is fried. but its all just not going.

one thing i noticed is that the small motherboard fans. (I bought a asus z77 with the shields)

the small small fans are turning on ans so is the cooler. the lights are all on too. but nothing is STAYING on
 
try reseating the CPU... use fingernail polish remover and a qtip to remove the thermal cream.. reapply a very thin, even layer before putting the heatsink back on.
 
Specs of the PC would help. Also, follow post #3 in the stickied "Basic Troubleshooting Guide" on what to do when the PC does not POST.

I wonder if the heatsink isn't seated properly. The system keeps shutting off because CPU temps are skyrocketing.

Unless you incorrectly installed it, the chance of the CPU being dead is very low. Still can happen but very very low. The motherboard is the more likelier culprit than the CPU. Although since this is your first PC build, it may be just a PEBKAC issue and you didn't hook up a cable correctly or something.

In fact, don't you have that friend with the same motherboard? If so, see if you can test your RAM, PSU, GPU, SSD, DVD burner, and hard drive in his PC to rule out those parts.

Well the first test is easy: Keep swapping in parts until the PC starts/stops exhibiting issues. However this requires you to have a working/booting CPU and mobo.

Actually the second test also requires a working/booting CPU and mobo and involves you using a variety of software to test the hardware.

Unfortunately, you can't do that with your current PC since it's not working/booting correctly. So follow that guide and figure out what's causing the issue. Make sure that you've connected all the necessary cables and power plugs. Also make sure that there aren't any screws and such loose on or under the motherboard.
 
i just noticed that my power supply keeps turning on and off, it makes a small noise then turn off. like every 2 seconds
 
Did you turn on the monitor? Did you connect the monitor to the video card?
 
everything just worked all of the sudden. im on the BIOS right now. the only thing is that my screen says

"CPU fan error"

but the CPU fan is spinning and all and keep the CPU under 30c
 
Did you plug in the CPU fan into the designated CPU fan header?
