I just built a new computer with a i5 750 cpu, msi p55-gd65 motherboard, 4GB RAM and am having trouble connecting to the internet

Even though the LAN cable is plugged in and there is a link light, my computer still says that a network cable is unplugged.

I have vista if it matters

Ive updated all drivers, tried different cords. Also i tried the same cord in my laptop and was able to access the internet.

When it shows unplug, are you able to get online? This could be 3 reasons. Bad cable, bad onboard NIC or bad switch. In my case this happen to me once. I had a bad linksys gigabit switch. I changed cables, try add-on nic but the problem was still present. I RMA it and sold it anyway. I now have Netgear 8 port gigabit switch.

Do you see two 'cable disconnected' icons? That mobo has 2 NIC's so its safe to see one icon with 'cable disconnected'.
The other icon would be hidden/not shown if its connected.

I only see one icon, i still cant access the internet though

I ended up just putting in a PCI NIC card and that seems to be working
