Help needed with NEXUS Fan Controller

I've got the Nexus Fan Controller to control 2 Delta fans. One is a 92mm GHE Extreme High Speed Fan, which, without the controller, showed an RPM of around 5400 and was very loud. It's rated to achieve 126 CFM at this RPM.

But once I fixed that fan to the Nexus, the Max RPM dropped down to 5060. This is with the controller knob set to MAX. Also, the fan (in MAX setting) is not as loud as it was before fixing the controller.

Why is this happening? How can I correct the problem? I need the fan to achieve MAX RPM when I want it to. After all, that is why I bought the monster...

You are either exceeding the maximum output of the Nexus, or it's slightly off calibration. I'd say live with it or buy a more robust fan controller such as a Sunbeam.
 
i belive the way the nexus is designed you can never get a 100% duty cycle from it, You arent that far off there, but if you absolutely have to have max rpm then you want something like the zalman fan controller that gives you a 100% cycle, or build your own, bit-tech.net have some good articles in that regard.
 
sorry to go off topic, but does anyone know how to disable the blue lights on it?

I have 3 Nexus fan controllers and they light up my room at night and i can't sleep.

Are there any particular models I should be looking at with Zalman or Sunbeam fan controllers? Also, the GHE Delta fan as a power rating of 16W. Do Zalman and Sunbeam offer at least that much load per channel?

I have no idea how to turn off blue light. Don't want to either. Think it looks pretty cool.
 
To disable the lights, cut or unsolder the 5 LEDs inside of it next to each knob. You can also raise the value of the resistors right behind each, but those are surface mount and a bitch to do and not too easy to get to without unsoldering (or burning) the capacitors

I replaced the transistors on mine with Sanyo 2SA2023s rated 5A, so they could do 60W per chan max, though I didn't heatsink them so I wouldn't take it that high.

I think the issue here is that the PWM circuit isnt going to 100% duty cycle, rather than the transistors dont have enough power, but that is always an option, IMO if your gonna faf around with a soldering iron you may as well go the whole hog and build your won though.

To the OP:
Zalman only make 1 controller i belive, but if they dont its the one with 4 knobs and 2 switches on.

Although i would say, consider just getting a quieter fan, i went a similar route on my old AXP, 92mm FFB delta + SLK900U, and although i could get it like 2 degs above ambient with the fan on full, i always had it turned right down and settled for a couple of degress higher, admittedly that fan was prob even louder than the one youre using, but belive me the noise will piss you off, even when youre gaming with the sound up, hell i could hear mine even with noise cancelling on my headphones turned on!
