I just built a new system with a gigabyte Ga-ep43-ds3l and western digital 640g HD. The board seems to be recognizing the harddrive, but when I install vista and it asks where to install it, it provides no harddrives to select. Anyone know what to do?

In the BIOs, set the following:
SATA AHCI mode to Disabled
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode to Native
Onboard SATA/IDE Device to Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to IDE

Where are those two options located?

So it's not under Integrated Peripherals?

Keep looking around for it.

Yeah, it isn't.

This is what I have:

SATA AHCI
SATA port0-3
USB...
USB...
USB...
USB...
Legacy USB...
azalia codec
onboard H/W LAN
Green LAN
SMART LAN
onbaord LAN Boot
onboard IDE controller
onboard serial port 1
onboard parallel port
parallel port mode

Yeah, it isn't.

Those are the two settings right there.

I found those...what about the 2nd pair

"Onboard SATA/IDE Device to Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to IDE"

Oh I thought you meant you couldn't find the 1st pair.

Anyway, looks like the two settings I mentioned aren't in the later Gigabyte mobos. My bad.

Anyway, try the 1st pair as they are currently set and see what happen. If the drive still isn't being detected, set both SATA AHCI and SATA Port0-3 to disabled.

No prob, should have been clearer. Let me see how that works.
