So it´s been some time now since I frequent a Peruvian gaming site, pretty much just a forum for gamers (gamers from Peru, yeah they play games too) and yes, there is also a little hardware section. The name of this site is Bloodzone yep, nice little name they got there, it´s in Spanish btw. So this site is the most popular gaming site of Peru (I reckon it´s the only one too :D) and there are some guys there that have some good hardware, and some other lot that like to leave their PCs on all night just to download using their P2P programs.

It´s really a pity that all this processing power gets unused, so what i want to do is to introduce them to the Folding, what is it all about, what does it does, and well, to get them to fold too. So what should i do? should i just create a topic over there? should i contact the moderators to get an Anouncement thread or a sticky one?
Does anyone has experience in how to do this kind of thing? i really want to be persuasive here.

oh yes and my profile over there, leSLIe (of course)

Well... as you know, my Spanish sucks big time....

So, teach me to speak Spanish and I'll be more than happy to help...... :)

That's all I got right now...besides a cold Pacifico and a few warm tamale... ;)

i really want to be persuasive here.

I'd say posting this up ought to do it...
With a link to here and instructions on adding team #33 to their config...;)

Really... I have no experience with htis kind of thing either, but just couldn't resist..:D

lol :p

I reckon i´ll have to create a Folding team just for them, although it´ll be cool if they could fold under Team 33.

Having a big site like Hardforum to back them up would also be nice :)

Their poll is kinda messed up on their front page.. how do they get a negative percent? .. Anyway.. site seems pretty nice. The main FAH page at Stanford is available in spanish, (so are some of the others), so you could put the link to that page in a message.
Some of us are multilingual so that if they have any questions you could always refer them back to us. I would ask the mods first if they would allow you to post something like that or if they would consider it spam. Be sure to include relevant links in the pms to the mods. That way they can check it out for themselves without having to use any effort.

Great idea! I can always abuse my girlfriend to get her to help translate. She lived in Paraguay for 5 years and is fluent in Spanish...and 2 others (Korean and English). So PM me if I can help you in any way.

Considering your seductress ways, I don't think you should have too much trouble. ;)

However, a PM to mods or admins about posting something like this would be the first step. If they say yes, then you can go about trying to recruit them. A suggestion you might try is asking them to fold for Team 33 but all of them use a single name. In other words, they would be something like a subteam of the [H]orde.

Unless you are able to get them to join up here and start folding for the [H]orde (yes, being able to read and write english at least somewhat is required) the subteam is probably the best way to go.

Trust me, their english does not need to be anywhere near perfect like yours. Half the people on this forum with english as their native tongue can't even read or write it intelligibly. :(

Hey great post leSLIe :p

It makes me feel proud to be on the same team as people like you, you're always thinking of ways to increase the chances of finding a cure thru folding :D

As far as knowing that the people from Peru play computer games, I was under the impression, no matter which country you're from, if you have the means you play computer games. ;)

Like many people, I don't really know how to entice someone to fold, but if you link the F@H site, link the team site, post the picture of yourself perhaps that'll help. (I had to look up the phrase "seductress ways")

On second thought, if you're successful just make sure they fold for the [H]orde. :)

Edit: Oops :( my bad leSLIe, about not knowing you live in Peru, who gives a flyin' rats poop. IMO the Internet is "borderless". Hey, when you think about it, you just proved my point, some people (of course as long as they have the means) no matter where they live or who they are do a bit of gammin' :D

O usted podría apenas utilizar un programa de la traducción tal como babelfish para ayudarle hacia fuera. :D:D:D:D

Okey , some of you might not know, but i currently live in Peru, and yes i also know Spanish, so that´s not a problem.

I´m gonna write draft of what i´m gonna send the mods over there, and i´ll post it here.
Although it seems that i´m gonna be talking on behalf of the Hardforum, so should i ask Kyle´s permission first?

I´m sure It would mean a lot to them if they have a big hardware site like [H]ard|OCP to back them up, and to be like their mentor or godfather :p well u get the idea :)

You should change your translator to use the familiar version of verbs, rather then the proper "usted" version.. at least with as much as you hit on her. Oh, and do not use contractions as they normally do not translate with software well. :D

yep, that translation is just awful :p

You should try to read it knowing the mexican (e.g. messed up) version of spanish better, since mexican spanish is quite different from the spanish spoken in the rest of the world.

well each latin american country has it´s own lingo, it´s own slang if u will, now the worst Spanish IMHO is the one that is spoken in Argentina, it´s a mixture between Spain´s Spanish and Italian pronunciation, kinda weird, all in all i have to say that the best Spanish pronunciation in Latin America is the one of the Peruvian :D

/Side Question

Leslie, has your production slowed down? I am catching up to ya again. Fold some more machines!

/End Side Question

At this rate Leslie you are in a shoe-in for Hard Dc'er of the month sometime! /Cheer!

Okey here is the draft, i just translated it into English, tell me what you think :)

Dear Administrators and Moderators

My name is Leslie Neumann (http://www.bloodzone.net/forums/member.php?u=21671) and since some time now i am part of the Bloodzone community, but i am also part of the Hardforum community (www.hardforum.com), which is the official forum of HardOCP (www.hardocp.com), and as you no doubt know that is one of the biggest and most respected hardware sites on the Internet, and in this opportunity i come to you in representation of HardOCP.

Like most of the users on Bloodzone i´m also a "gamer", and i see that here in Peru there a lot of avid gamers, and as such, they have good hardware in their computers, which is very useful when you want to play the latest games, but what you might not know is that these computers can also be used in an altruistic cause: in the search for cure of many diseases that are incurable as of today.

The Stanford University is the creator of a program called Folding@Home, which is oriented to medical research. It is based in the use of the spare cpu cycles of the computer in which is currently installed on, in order to study the folding of proteins, a very important biological process. All of this is aimed to the search of the cure for many different diseases (which are incurable as of today) such as Alzheimer, Parkinson, Huntington´s diseases and also the different cancers and their respective syndromes.

The Folding@Home project is focused in distributing data to all the computers that have the Folding@Home program installed into, that is done in order to let the data be processed in these computers, once the results are obtained they are send to the Stanford servers and these data, now converted in information, in distributed among the scientists that run several medical researches. By doing so, we have the equivalent of a Supercomputer without the millionaire costs involved.

People all over the world are participating in this project and also several internet sites such as: HardOCP, Anandtech, nVIDIA, Ars Technica, Engadget, Overclockers Australia, Maximum PC, The Tech Report, PC Perspective, among others. Folding@Home is also sponsored by big IT companies like Intel, Google, ATI, Dell, Apple, among others, in this website you can read in more detail all about the Folding@Home project (http://folding.stanford.edu/Spanish/Main)

The reason of this message that i´m writing you is that of ask your authorization, to create a thread in this forum regarding Folding@Home, which would be focused in introducing the Bloodzone community to this noble cause.

On my behalf and on behalf of all the folding group from HardOCP also known as The [H]orde, have our most sincere salutations and best wishes.

Yours Truly, Leslie Neumann

Great idea, LeSLIe.

You've got a few run-on sentences and several typos, but the message is well suited to your audience, I think. When you have it all tweaked, please post both English and Spanish, por favor.

Fold on!

Looks good.....I really think this is a good idea and I wish you luck....

Od course, if you need any help at all, you know we're here to help!!

/beers and tamales to you!!

Fold On!!

thanx, here is the Spanish version,

Queridos moderadores y adminstradores

Leslie Neumann

I´m gonna PM Kyle to ask for his blessing :D
wish me luck :)

Looks like it came together really well. Good job!!

Luck! :)

@leSLIe, I hope you have great luck with Don Kyle, always remember, being the head of the [H]orde family ain't easy. :D

You're draft looks "fantastico", at least the English translation does. I'm not too swift on reading and interpreting Spanish for critiquing of the Spanish version. :(

Hey, maybe you'd have more luck if you translated it into Italian (you know, for the Godfather of the [H]orde, Don Kyle)

Later, Best Of Luck

Awesome stuff and a great letter Leslie !! I hope this works out and they like the idea.

Great initiative there, LeSLIe ! If you need help with Kyle's authorization, contact me with PM and I'll see what I can do :)

I sent a PM to Xilikon, i hope his able to help me out on this one. But he will be unavailable for a while :(

Welcome back.

The clients have been updated and there is a new unified client available that folds both standard and SMP units. However, you can still use the old clients until November with a file replacement. Also, the GPU client is available in both console and systray versions.

Let us know if you have any issues. :)

As Apollo said they expired.

Many a good link to help in the Sticky : Beta client expire today, infos for updates

Welcome back leSLIe! Hope you had a nice vacation. you missed a pretty wild ride here the last week 1/2 with all the client upgrades. Good time to take a vacation. Almost wish I had..

Check out the 2 stickies pertaining to the GPU stuff and SMP stuff and hopefully you'll be good to go.

Nice to see you're still working on spreading the folding love. GL.

Welcome back! Yeah, it was a pain in the neck having to re-install the clients. I ended up with 4 lost WU's plus the memory in one of my diskless units was rendered inoperable by a power surge during a lightning storm last week. Back to full strength...for now. :D

[F]old on!

After some well deserved vacations, i´m back,

welcome back! :D

Where is your thread about your vacation adventures? ;)

I want to hear all about it!

WOOT!

nice to have you folding again!
