So my little brother has a new m14x, and wants a new mouse for Christmas, and I am having some problems finding something that fits the bill. He is looking for:

A gaming mouse
Wired
NOT laptop sized, but smaller than a desktop mouse.
(I'm assuming he means a portable mouse that is not completely huge like a G5/G500.

The Logitech G9x might fit the bill. Its smaller than the standard mouse and just superb. I have a G9 and love it. Best sensor Ive ever used. Downright surgical. I use my Deathadder more often though because its the most comfortable mouse Ive ever used but go back to the G9 every once in a while.

Might want to post this in the Mice & Keyboard section, it'll probably get more responses there.

Personally I would stay away from Razer. I know a lot of the gaming community swears by them but once you've used a Razer mouse you'll realize that they're not worth the hype. The build quality is very cheap and driver support is mediocre at best. The only upside is that they have a wide selection of mice, some of which are cheaper than the competition yet still pretty decent mice (the Deathadder 3500dpi can be found for ~$35 give or take), but if you want a quality mouse I'd go with a Logitech, which feels much more sturdy, has better sensors, and customer service that blows Razer's out of the water - seriously, good luck trying to get Razer to replace anything for you.

The G9x is a great little mouse that's smaller than most, yet most people would call it one of the best gaming mice out there right now. Tons of people here on [H] use one and love it. If I had to buy a wired gaming mouse, the G9x would be it.

I guess the Cyborg R.A.T. 7 would be right up in his alley. But yeah, Logitech is one name that can be trusted.

Thanks so far, all. I'm a big logitech fan too (having used a Sidewinder as well as a few Razors over the years), but it seems like mice these days are either: Massive, wireless or crazy $$$.

is the g400 too large for his needs? it's been my favorite mouse for years now (keep in mind its an mx518 with a face lift)
otherwise razer salmosa is a good mouse, though it lacks side buttons

If you really need a small/cheap/durable/ambidextrous mouse, there's always the SS Kinzu.

That's the kind of mouse I've been looking for, thanks, BDS.
On sale at Amazon too, + free shipping. Score.

stay the FUCK away from kinzu, 5 tons of positive acceleration and 10 tons of angle snapping, i'd rather play with a gamepad seriously !
wait for kinzu V2 (should be out soon ! ) or browse the black market for a kinzuadder :p

You should think about the Logitech G300. It's a small, low cost mouse, but a lot better for gaming than a non gaming mouse.

Thanks for the info all. I actually landed on the Abyssus. It has essentially the same dimensions as the Kinzu, was $10 cheaper, and the reviews seemed really good. It was actually Amazon that did it. $40 seemed a little steep, and their bottom bar showed way more people buying the Razer.

Coolermaster CM Storm Spawn is my favorite of the smaller mice out. Love the thing. It gets more use than my Deathadder does now, though I still use the Deathadder for FPS games.

Go for the G9X, it's smaller than most mice, but still a good step bigger than a laptop mouse. It's wired, and it's got a great sensor, perfect for gaming.

I've owned 2-3 Razer Mice, Lachesis and two Deathadders, as well as 5-6 other Logitech mice, but the G9/G9X are my favorites of all time.

I thought about it, given the size, but it's also twice as expensive.

+1 to Deathadder. It's shaped almost exactly like the legendary Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, very comfortable to use. No problems with it for 5 years.
