Not a real big problem...........but..........

Modded my XBox 360.
It's now powered by a Corsair 550W PSU and plugged into the XBox by one of these:http://www.totalconsole.com/servlet/the-139/PSU-ENERGYSER-FOR-XBOX/Detail

The Talismoon is a 20 pin ATX adapter, but only the 12V,5V a couple of grounds and pin 14 are actually active.

I have the Talisman, three 12V fans and my MCP355 12V pump connected to the PSU.

When I turn on the PSU's on/off switch, instead of it waiting for the "on" signal from the XBox, it immediately starts up and powers the three fans and the water pump.
The XBox turns on when I turn it on manually.

It ain't a big deal, but I'd like the PSU to turn "on" when I turn on the XBox, otherwise I have to turn it off manually or the waterpump and fans will run continually.

I figure it's the Talismoon adapter, since it doesn't have all the pins......something is telling the PSU to turn on, rather than stand-by.

Any ideas??
 
It is likely (almost certain) it is the pin 14 which is the PS-ON signal normally from the motherboard to the PSU.

an active low signal that turns on all of the main power rails including 3.3V, 5V, -5V, 12V, and -12V power rails. When this signal is held high by the PC board or left open circuited, outputs of the power rails should not deliver current and should be held at a zero potential with respect to ground. Power should be delivered to the rails only if the PS-ON signal is held at ground potential. This signal should be held at +5VDC by a pull-up resistor internal to the power supply.

so not having that adapter in my hand so I could buzz it out and figure out what is going on with pin 14, I cant figure out how to hack it the best way. Somehow (double pole switch ) you need to get the green pin 14 wire of the PSU open circuited or pulled up from ground until you turn on the Xbox switch which should then ground pin 14. Normally open relay might be rigged up etc. Honestly without the stuff in front of me I cant do any better atm. But I amost bet that is the problem. And some power supplies are picky, per above open circuit on pin 14 should be sufficient, but some supplies want it pulled up from ground and some supplies want a hard transistion (where grouned to open circuit will not turn it off). /shrug.

This has to be something goofy with the Talismoon adapter......I mean an XBox PSU works on the same principle.

I tried a PCP&C 850W PSU last night as well and it did the same thing, as soon as I plugged the adapter in and switched on the psu it started the pump and fans.....essentially kicking the PSU out of standby.

I would think the XBox could/would control this.....meh.

If you come up with anything let me know.
When I get home from work, I'll list the active pins in the adapter.....maybe there is something missing i could modify???
 
The Xbox power supply works on the same principle, but not the same voltage.

A PC power supply's power on signal is +5V. The Xbox's is +3.3V. So unless the adapter has a way to drop that voltage down from +5V to +3.3V before hitting the Xbox motherboard, it aint gonna work.

Well..........I learned some stuff today searching around.
One thing is this dumb-ass adapter apparently pulls all the Amps from one 12V lead on the PSU and can get pretty hot...........I felt mine and there was a noteable temperature on pins 1 and 11..........too warm, IDK?

Secondly...........here's what some guy did to fix the 12V deal and also the on/off deal.........any thoughts?? http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=642640

I would strongly recommend that you follow that guide if it is indeed true that the adapter pulls 16.5A from one wire, since that would be exceeding the specifications of the pins.
