Have an interview this coming Friday and i would really like to know what questions are typically asked at the interview for a help desk support position

How many drinks are you allowed to have in the server room?
Where do you pour the anti-malware fluid in the Switch(es)?
Under what circumstances are you allowed to power-down the data center?
How many times should an Ethernet cord wrap around the power cord between the wall and device?
Explain electron migration as it applies to modern motherboards and processors

How would you handle an upset person needing assistance?
Explain or demonstrate at least one method of joining a WS to a Domain.

1) As many as i want, just don't spill any...

2)In the fans silly, it needs to hit every port otherwise it's ineffective.

3)When Planet Nibiru is coming to end the world.

4)As many times as feasibly possible to ensure complete cross-talk and degradation of signal.

5)No.

6)Tell them to Keep Calm and Chive On(on their cell phone). While I quickly resolve their issue in a professional manner.

7)I thought the sys admins wrote a script for that?

8)Where's my coffee and donuts?

;):p:cool:

You're wasted on the HelpDesk- you should aim higher and work in Marketing or Supervise :p

It's one of those "if you have to ask" type situations...

I recently hired two helpdesk techs, and this is what I asked for interviews (I know some of these aren't terribly difficult, but I look more for potential, not current knowledge when it comes to a helpdesk position):

What about the job description interested you?

Why do you believe this position would be better for you than your current position with current employer (if employed?)

What do you enjoy most in your current position?

How do you organize your tasks?

Why did you get into the technology field?

What is one IT related technology you’d like to learn more about?

What would you say is your strongest technical area of expertise? Weakest?

Do you have experience with the following, and in what capacity?
VMware

Exchange 2010

Active Directory

SQL

Windows Server

VOIP Phone Systems

HTML

Training

iOS

Adobe Products – Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat

Networking – Cisco VPN, Brocade Switches, LAN concepts – DHCP, DNS, etc.

Name four levels of RAID, and what application you might use each for?
(RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10(1+0))

Do you know the keyboard shortcuts for the following?
Cut (Ctrl-X)
Copy (Ctrl-C)
Paste (Ctrl-V)
Undo (Ctrl-Z)
Run (Windows Key + R)
Quit Program/Close Window (Alt-F4)
Switch Application (Alt-Tab)

A user calls you saying their computer is frozen, what steps would you take to troubleshoot?

What are the steps to show hidden files in Windows 7? (Explorer -> Organize -> Folder Options -> View Tab) (Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View Tab)

Do you have experience building PC’s? Identify each component for me.

What computers do you use at home?

What web browser do you typically use?

What technical web sites do you visit frequently?

Do you have issues with occasional travel?

*EDIT
Also, I always enjoy getting questions, as long as they are appropriate and not stupid. Maybe ask about the company's infrastructure, software usage, or implementations. Don't pry, but act as interested as possible. Don't be afraid to reference hardocp, or hardforum if it comes up, being active in the community shows you have a love for computers which also is a huge plus. It shows the interviewer you are in it because you love it, and not because it's just a job. Good luck.

Do you like sushi?

I then proceed to give my boss a hard time and watch for a reaction. If they freak, then they're not a good fit.
