I have a generic 480 Watt PSU and everytime it starts up it makes a loud buzzing noise. After Windows load it stops making the buzzing noise. I think my PSU is dying. I am interested in buy a new PSU, but I know nothing about it. Can anyone recommend me another one?

My current system specs with MOBO is here:

Intel E5400 | MSI G31TM-P21 MOBO 775 socket | 2 gigs ddr2 800 | GIGABYTE GV-N98TGR-512I GeForce 9800 GT | 500 gigs hdd

thank you for your time

Any plans to upgrade your video card? Thats the other thing that could up your requirements.

Corsair PSU's are always safe bet, you can probably get a psu with a bit of head room for when you do upgrade your other parts. A 550 Watt is only around 60 dollars on newegg.

Actually, I don't include rebates in the price at all. This is because there is no guarantee that you'll even receive the rebate or rebate card at all. In fact, rebate requests often get rejected at the fulfillment company even if you completed everything required to claim the rebate. And sometimes, the rebate gets lost in the mail and never delivered to your home. Worst of all, you still have to pay the full price before you even send in the rebate request. In this case, that VX550 costs not $60 - but actually $80. That's too high for a lower-wattage non-modular PSU these days. Plus, the VX550 is built on an older CWT platform that isn't as high of a quality as CWT's newer designs.

In the future, yes. I'm thinking of going for a 5770 or a 460 (once the price drops below $100 bucks or so)....so is 400 watts still good enough or should I get another PSU?

Go with this PSU then:
$64 - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W PSU

Though it looks like you may need to upgrade that CPU + mobo + RAM later on. So to cover the vast majority of CPU + mobo + RAM upgrades, I recommend this PSU:
$90 - Corsair 650TX 650W PSU

Better to spend a little more $ now and get one that you can be sure will last you through the forseeable future so I vote for the Corsair.
