Hi I'm new to these forums and was wondering if i could get help on building a PC. Here are the parts that i've picked and would like to spend under 750 dollars.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$750
3) Where do you live?
CA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
CPU, RAM, Case, Power Supply, Video Card, Motherboard
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I will be reusing the HD from my previous computer.
6) Will you be overclocking?
No, but maybe in the future.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
20"
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
In a few weeks/days
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
I am not looking for anything in particular. But i do not really need crossfire or SLI.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
Windows 7 64bit.

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119137

Can you please comment and help me pick parts that would better suit what i can spend. And make any suggestions on what parts i could change. Thanks!

1. Your Phenom II Black should be good for overclocking. I imagine that's what you want to do, right?

This is a very highly-rated overclocker's board:

2. Your ram link goes to the processor again.

3. Don't buy OCZ powersupplies. Stick to Corsair or Antec. You also don't need that kind of power unless you're going with CrossFire (but you'll need a 790X motherboard to do that).

This Corsair 450w powersupply is plenty:

4. Why are you buying a 9800GTX for almost $135 (that's overpriced)? Grab yourself this XFX 5770 for just $30 more.

Just a note: you may be able to find better prices if you have a Frys or Microcenter near you, since you're going to get charged tax from Newegg anyway.

ahh thanks for the quick reply. Yah i do plan on overclocking, but not at the current state. As for the video card, my friend told me that a 9800gtx is an equivalent to the 5770 and that i would save money on the 9800gtx. So i jsut listened to him. I'm still trying to decide on which RAM to get for cheap as i want to save money.

Well ur friend is wrong. The closest equivalent to the HD 5770 is the GTX 260. The 9800GTX would not be a good buy.

Oh the ram i was talking about is this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231193. And yes i do have a local Fry's about 5 miles from my house. Would the prices there be significantly cheaper? Or would it be aroudn the same?

Danny is 100% correct, the 9800gtx is not comparable to the 5770. New tech vs 3 year old tech, you decide.

As for HardwareGuru's above build, very good although I am slightly skeptical of A-Data ram... stick with g.skill or corsair if you can.

If your skeptical about the RAM, go with the GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 for $85 and the G.Skill RAM for $105. Should come out the same anyways.

I agree with this HardwareGuru, let's go with the G.Skill ram the OP picked-out, and the motherboard I linked, I'm a bit of a skeptic about A-DATA quality myself.

I do like that XFX 5770 + Neo 520 combo, that really saves some money without sacrificing quality :)

I, too, prefer G.Skill, but A-Data has worked fine for me as well, no quality issues in the past few years unlike Wintec and other generic brands. Either kit should work fine. It's an AMD build, so you need not worry as much about the voltage rating of the RAM as you would for an Intel i3/5/7 build.

Hey i'm i need help once more. I've pretty much gone with what HardwareGuru has told me too, but i've replaced the RAM with a gskill as well have gone with the Mobo that default has picked for me. However, i was looking at case and mobo combos and found these two.

CM 690 w/ an ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.343305

Or

CM Scout w/ GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX, which default had picked.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.343298

Or i could just go with the CM 690 and GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX seperately. It would be cheaper than the former, but a little more expensive than the later.

Case is up to you. I have both of them and like 'em. I like the scout better because of it's handle and black interior, but I think the RC-690 looks MUCH better. Cases are personal preference, so choose whichever one you like.

Regarding the boards, the 790X has more features than the 770, namely CrossfireX. If you don't need CFX, then save your cash and get the 770. Both boards are good, so you can't really go wrong -- it just depends on how much you want/have to spend. Don't forget to factor in the cost of shipping for either options.

Thanks. I am not looking to CFX so really i guess i just wanted an opinion on the cases. Theres only about a 5 dollar difference if i choose either case. And i ahve to agree that the 690 does look better and also has more places for fans. But the storm also looks very nice.

there is no spoon. :p

if you carry your computer from place to place often, the handle on the scout is convenient. if you like the sidewindow and a black interior, the scout looks better than the rc-690. my rc-690 has no window, so i don't mind the grey interior. my scout is hidden under my desk, so you don't really see it. my rc-690 is on top of a file cab, so its more visible (and since i like the exterior looks better, it looks nice where i have it, lol). my rc-690 replaced my silver lian-li pc60 (yes, the original, w/ 80mm fans, lol; no, it only cost me $30 brand new, not $130 back in 2002). both the scout and rc-690 have good cable management, and both have PSUs on the bottom, so balance is good/sturdy. you may or may not need an 8-pin eps extension depending on the psu and mobo, though, since its a bottom mounted psu (if the eps connector is on the top edge of the board, you should be fine; if its in the middle of the board, you'll probably need an extension since you want to route the eps cable behind the mobo -- applies to both cases).

Shit, nice name.

Thanks, i only learn from the best.

Thanks for your input! I'm still undecided about which case to get, but i'll probably be asking around for opinions. So far i'm kinda leaning towards the scout, but i also like the 690 :p
