I want to build a good gaming computer. My budget is a $1000, please help.

This is what I would pick.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz

GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3 LGA 775 Intel G965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

CORSAIR XMS2 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory

Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC ATX 430W Power Supply

Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

NEC 18X DVD±R DVD Burner

Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2b 1pk w/Upgrade Coupon for Vista - OEM

Grand Total:* $945.43 (Doesn’t include tax or shipping )

I would not get the GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3 if I were you. The GA-965P-S3 is a better value and since this is a gaming PC, onboard video is not required. And the Thermaltake Power supply Rob Black is a poor choice. Thermaltake make generally makes horrible power supplies except for their toughpower line.

Now here's what I'd buy for $1000:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 - $187.00
GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express - $104.99
G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ 2 x 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 800 RAM - $199.99
SAPPHIRE 100176L Radeon X1950PRO 256MB PCI-Express - $189.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s - $57.99
NEC Black DVD Burner - $29.49
XCLIO GOODPOWER 500W ATX 500W Power Supply - $51.99
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW ATX Case - $49.99
---
Total: $871.43

Yes that is underbudget but there's room for an operating system:

Windows Vista Home Premium DVD - $119.99
Windows Vista Ultimate DVD - $199.99
Windows XP Pro SP2 w/ Upgrade Coupon for Vista - $139.99

Hope this list helps.
