Ok first i have searched the forums to help me, but i couldn't find anything that was really step by step for a noobie to video encoding like me. Basicaly I want to back up my dvds to hard disk so that i can watch them in wmp or divx player or whatever. I have used DVDFab Decrypter to rip dvd to my hard disk. Now i have a folder full of heaps of files. How to i convert these to one xvid avi file or mpeg.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

you can just open those .vob files with your normal dvd player software, like powerdvd or whatever. just do file>>open files/folder and choose the folder.

You'll need to convert the vobs if you want to watch them on a divx player....it'll also save you a huge amount of disk space. In native format, most DVDs are 4+ GB, so you can fill up a disk fast unless you transcode.

You just need to download any number of dvd to *media type* programs out there. Some are free you just have to look around.

Actually, most software players (powerdvd/windvd etc..) can just play the folder, so they all stay together. In fact, you wouldn't notice any difference between the disk, and the files.

How can i do that?

The best way to go from DVD/VOB --> Divx/AVI is by using AutoGK
http://www.autogk.me.uk/

You can find tutorials for this guide at www.doom9.org and www.videohelp.com

And as mentioned above, most programs do support drag & drop for playback, but unless you really want 4-9 GB of files taking up space on your system (for each DVD) you should look into converting.

I think you could also use ratdvd to do the same thing, and there are players that will play the resulting files

I think there is an option in dvd decrypter to rip the dvd to a merged single 4gb vob file, in case you don't wan't to bother with conversion and have the extra space.

You could also just save it as an ISO image file. That's the way I prefer to keep DVDs on my hard drive.
