The stock cooler on my eVGA 6600GT AGP video cooler sucks bad. The card runs hot as we all know and my computer is continuely freezing if I play 3D games with the settings turned up (not OCing at all!)... I did some research and I found this Stasis Thermal Managment IceStorm Performance VGA Cooler - NV43AGP which was customly meant for the reference design of an AGP version of the 6600GT. It cools the memory as well as a copper heatsink base for the actual GPU. The only down fall is the price, it's 55 dollars plus shipping for this fan/heatsink and a miniture performance heatsink for the little bridge on the card that I need to replace my crappy one with anyways... Here are some links for you guys to look at:

The Company's information about this cooler:
(here)

And a review about it:
(here)

I am wondering if there is anything that would work better than this (Water cooling is NOT an option) regardless of price if it's under 60 bucks... Does anybody have this IceStorm cooler and have any comments on it? Thanks everyone...

It would be cheaper to see if you can get a case fan angled in there somehow to see if that helps. $180 card + $60 cooler doesn't make sense :(. It would be another thing if your card was a $500 one :).

Money's not a problem with me as long as it's not over 60 bucks ;) I already have a fan blowing air on it and it still overheats by the way. I paid 217 dollars for the card back in January so meh...

RMA? if the card's crashing at stock, you have a problem with the heatsink. Why not rma it and have the company fix it instead of voiding the warranty with an aftermarket?

Well I already did some modifying like Arctic Silver and plus I don't want to deal with RMAing it since it really doesn't have that much of problems unless I turn the settings to like 1280x1024 and all high on HL2 or CSS... 1024x768 and medium works ok and doesn't overheat...

go with the zalman vf700cu

Would that be able to cool my card better than what I'm running now? What about the video memory? Does it come with ramsinks?

Which would be better the Zalman or the IceStorm? Which would you get? Of course the Zalman is quiet but again, would it FIT on the 6600GT AGP? (like I noticed a BFG cooler from BestBuy wouldn't fit on it)

if it's overheating at stock speeds, that's a pretty serious problem.

YOU KNOW WHAT, I DON'T CARE WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES ARE OF SAYING SUCH A NASTY MESSAGE BUT ALL I ASKED FOR WAS WHAT COOLER WOULD BE IDEAL FOR ME IN THIS SITUATION EVEN IF COST IS NO PROBLEM AND ALL I GET IS CRAP ABOUT HOW IT SHOULDN'T BE OVERHEATING. YOU ARE OF NO HELP TO ME EXCEPT THE GUY WHO SUGGESTED THE ZALMAN--THANK YOU PANDORA BOX FOR SAYING SOMETHING RIGHT!

ummmm relax dude, theres no reason to get feisty.
I would just go and RMA it, youll kick yourself if the thing dies right outside of warranty period.
Otherwise, you're gonna have to shell out some $$ to get a decent cooler, but the thing is, its probably no the cooling if its crashing at stock, thats what these people are trying to say.

get the zalman, on mine it runs so much cooler i get an extra 100mhz core and memory.
before th ezalman it wouldnt run much above 545 core 1.04 mem.
Now it can do 630 core and 1.1 mem.
The mounting is so much better than the stock cooler, it makes you wonder why they used such a crappy method on the stock cooler.

okay you know that crazy little bridge thing? i took mine off and put a custom BFG ramsink on it and it fell off and so i put the stock one back on using screws rather than using actual plastic and springs. I think it'll help my computer from crashing so i'm going to go test it out on the highest setting regardless if the actual fps end up being really low...

say something while i'm gone and i'm sorry for "yelling"

well no wonder it was artifacting! you had a custom ram sink on the bridge chipset that fell off.....

Jesus. You ask for advice and then freak out when somebody offers it. If you are so inclined to burn your money upgrading a card that is obviously faulty, be my guest. Personally, it seems like a waste to me to spend money on an accessory for a video card that is overheating out of the box. My opinion is that you probably have an issue with the heatsink not making good contact with the core. Something that could be easily fixed without spending $60 on a new heatsink. $60 is a good amount to me, but live and let live i suppose.

okay so i don't have any problems anymore but does anybody have any final thoughts?

Great. :D Was it that you needed a new $60 heatsink, or something else?

I still want a new heatsink for it even though the crashing has stopped. I hate the stock cooler and the way it's designed. If I could put a decent cooler on it (which I think I have found) I would be happy. As I said above, I put a different heatsink on the stupid little bridge thing that needs sometype of cooling and it was the kind where it was a sticker and it just fell off. I don't recommend BFG's ramsinks or even the video card fan that BFG sells seperately at BestBuy or on Newegg...
