Hi my name is Kyle im 19 and live in Ohio and I just registered on the hardforum so I could read and post some threads. Im not really experienced at building computers but im trying to learn. Im going to take some classes at my community college that teach you how to repair and upgrade pcs. And mabye get into networking. So anyway I was looking around the internet for some info and I found these forums and I must say you guys know your stuff. I want to get a whole new computer monitor and everything. Because a few years ago I bought a gateway. This was when I didnt know my ass from a pc and I really got riped off. I hate how those people take advantage of people who dont know much. Since I got it its had so many errors. I have had to manually reformat it like 5 times in 2 years because Its that bad. When I call tech support I either get some Indian guy that I cant understand or they just tell me to reinstall windows. Well I have had it. Im sick of being at the mercy of those evil computer giants. So im either going to make myself a new computer or find a good pc from a less known company. Im currently looking at the computers at www.abspc.com. Im worried that I dont know enough to build my own so I might buy one from this company. I was wondering if any of you guys could help out a new timmer or give me some advice on how I can learn more. Im just sick of having to rely on other people form my problems. Thanks
 
First of all, you've come to the right place(almost). For general hardware questions like this, you should post in the general hardware forum. Most people around here are probably going to recommend building your own computer. It really isn't all that hard. When you buy from a smaller company, you will rarely get a better deal than building it yourself. You will also learn a lot more by building it yourself. Just read around here for a couple weeks and ask questions if you need to. Nearly everyone here uses newegg to get their stuff(help the forums - click the banner at the top of the page to go to newegg). Welcome to hardforums and enjoy your stay.

as for learning to build your own computer, i just did it, and boy, it was scary, but it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be... so if I can do it (after all, I'm just some Indian..i'm surprised i understand myself half the time! :p) i'm sure you strapping Yankee can!

since you have reformatted a couple of times ... you're already familiar with more than half of the battle in building PC's ... good luck ... and this forum is a good source of info ... if you're not far from me ... I am not averse in helping others ...
 
Your first computer is going to be your best experience. You're gonna get ripped off, the tech-support guys are going to treat you like a first time user. It's their job. But now you've learned. As for building your own box, just make the leap. We all did, you can too. And keep reading and don't forget to ask questions. You could also google build your own pc.
 
Thanks for the help guys. I will read the forums daily and ask any question I might have. Now all I need is some money to buy the parts. :(
 
Maybe in a few months time you'll be able to outsmart tech support guys that we all hate. I love it when they don't know the answer to questions. Once you learn all the jargon, it's even better, especially when you buy stuff from a computer store.

P.S You'll be able to outsmart tech support guys a couple of days, they don't know much anyways

hey Saint, welcome to [H] forum

i recommend you build your own computer... i ll bet everyone else would agree... more flexibility, maximum upgradibility, saves money, and you know what you're getting for with the money you throw down

if your still new to the computer environment, i suggest you to read a buncha tutorials and ask questions before you jump in and buy parts to build a computer... it takes time to learn but its pretty easy once you get to understand it

Dude, I see your points in the argument you referenced to in the other locked thread. You seem like you have a crusade to fight with this whole animosity against India.

I recently called my investment company and got to talk to a person from India. I have to say, I flat out couldn't understand him. Part of the problem was his accent, but mostly it was the phone connection. It was to quiet and not enough fidelity. Sounded like a shitty mp3 or something. We got thru just fine, but having a better connection would have helped. As far as the accent thing tho, I can remember getting a guy from the deep south in America. I couldn't understand that guy at all.

Do I care about this whole outsourcing thing. Nope. You get the same poor quality now as when you did when it was untrained American screen readers. I'm just glad I am not one of the millions of people who saw a gravy train with this whole IT industry and hopped on. Bottom line is there are too many people for too few jobs. How about when youngsters start college, they pick a profession that isn't over saturated with unemployed professionals. I mean these kids see easy money for little work.....at least thats what they think they are getting into. Give me a break. When they can't get a job, they bitch and whine and look at the guy with a job and paint a lable. Plenty of teacher jobs out there, oh that's right...it isn't fun to be a teacher.
 
Ya know I was thinking about being a history teacher. I like history but I really hate kids and I dont wanna spend my day telling my students to shut up.

No need to gloat. I chose not to respond because I didn't have the 3 weeks required to read thru your whole post. I wasn't trying to be offensive, I was just stating my opinion. Plus, I don't like being insulted about my "english" I can speak very well, thank you. :rolleyes:

General[H]ardware is intended for threads specifically dealing with hardware issues, but a first "hello world" post is usually excepted....until it starts to wander a bit.... :cool:
